Multiple selection

Most editing and formatting commands in Atlantis, like "Cut" or "Bold", apply to the currently selected text in the active document. In addition to the traditional selection type when one continuous fragment is selected in the document, in Atlantis you can also perform various actions on a compound selection comprised of multiple simple selections. Such a selection consisting of multiple nonadjacent document fragments is called a multiple selection.

You can select multiple nonadjacent paragraphs as a multiple selection:

"Say Lord strike you dead if you don't!" said the man.

I said so, and he took me down.

"Now," he pursued, "you remember what you've undertook, and you remember that young man, and you get home!"

"Goo-good night, sir," I faltered.

"Much of that!" said he, glancing about him over the cold wet flat. "I wish I was a frog. Or a eel!"

or multiple fragments of sentences:

"Say Lord strike you dead if you don't!" said the man.

I said so, and he took me down.

"Now," he pursued, "you remember what you've undertook, and you remember that young man, and you get home!"

"Goo-good night, sir," I faltered.

"Much of that!" said he, glancing about him over the cold wet flat. "I wish I was a frog. Or a eel!"

or even multiple individual characters:

"Say Lord strike you dead if you don't!" said the man.

I said so, and he took me down.

"Now," he pursued, "you remember what you've undertook, and you remember that young man, and you get home!"

"Goo-good night, sir," I faltered.

"Much of that!" said he, glancing about him over the cold wet flat. "I wish I was a frog. Or a eel!"

To select multiple document fragments as a multiple selection, select its first item in the traditional way using the keyboard or mouse. Then hold the Ctrl key down and select any additional fragment with the mouse pointer. To exclude an item from a multiple selection, click it while still holding the Ctrl key pressed.

Tips:

  • If some items of the multiple selection are not currently visible in the document window, you can use the Show more selections Button image button of the Edit toolbar The 'Edit' toolbar , to bring currently not visible items of the multiple selection into view.
  • The "Tools | Word Count..." menu command tells how many individual items (simple fragments) are contained within the current multiple selection:

  • If you make a multiple selection, and start typing, the new text would replace each of the items of the multiple selection. You can also replace each item of a multiple selection with the clipboard contents by using the Paste command.
