Status Bar

The status bar displays various information about the active document (the cursor position, language of the selected text, spellcheck status, etc).

Use the View | Status Bar main menu command to show or hide the status bar.

The status bar is split into separate sections. You can use the Tools | Status Bar... main menu command to choose which sections of the status bar should be displayed.

All the possible sections of status bar are shown on the following picture:

Below you can find brief description of each of the status bar sections:

Caret position

This section indicates the following information:

  • the current page number,
  • the page count,
  • the current document section number,
  • the document section count,
  • vertical distance from the top edge of the current page to the caret,
  • the current paragraph line number,
  • the current character number within the current paragraph line.

You can double-click this section to bring up the Go to... dialog.

If the active document includes bookmarks, you can right-click this status bar section for the list of document bookmarks:

"Modified" flag

If the current document contents was not saved, this section says Modified. Otherwise it is blank. This section can be double-clicked to save the active document.

Insert/Overwrite mode

This section displays the current typing mode (Insert or Overwrite).

You can double-click this section to toggle the typing mode.

Status icons

This section can display various status icons:

Icon Description
Displayed when a safe copy was created for the active document.
Displayed if the active document was restored from a safe copy after a fatal crash or accidental shutdown of your computer.
Displayed when the active document is encrypted.

Language

This section indicates the language of the selected text (if any) or of the current text. It is blank when the selected text includes fragments marked with two or more different languages.

You can double-click this section to change the language for the selected text. You can also right-click it: a list of recently used languages would be displayed, and you could choose a language from this list to apply it to the current document selection.

Characters (without spaces)

This section displays the character count (not including space characters) of the active document. You can double-click this section to get the complete statistics on the document selection (if any) or on the whole document text.

Characters (with spaces)

This section displays the character count (including space characters) of the active document. You can double-click this section to get the complete statistics on the document selection (if any) or on the whole document text.

Word count

This section displays the word count of the active document. You can double-click this section to get the complete statistics on the document selection (if any) or on the whole document text.

Document file size

This section displays the current size of the active document's file. It is blank if the active document does not yet have a file on the disk. You can double-click this section to get the complete statistics on the document selection (if any) or on the whole document text.
