When you launch Atlantis by double-clicking its icon on the Windows Desktop, or by choosing the Atlantis shortcut from the Windows "Start" menu, the first thing you see is the main window of Atlantis. In this main window, Atlantis displays the contents of open documents. All the tools offered by Atlantis are available through this window. There you can view your documents, edit them, and perform any other operation supported by Atlantis.
On the following picture you can see the basic components of the Atlantis main window.
See below for the description of these components.

Window Title (or Title Bar) is a standard component of most windows. The Title of Program and the name of the active document is displayed in the Window Title. Also the Window Title includes a set of buttons allowing to minimize, restore/maximize, and close the main window of Atlantis.
The Main Menu is one of possible ways to access many commands and features in Atlantis. By selecting an item from the main menu, you can perform the corresponding command, or show the associated dialog. As many other components and features of Atlantis, the main menu can be customized to fit your personal needs.
Toolbars are the alternative way to access commands and features in Atlantis. Unlike the items of the main menu which display names of associated commands and features, most items of the toolbars are small buttons with a graphic image. By clicking any of the toolbar buttons, you can also perform the corresponding command, or show the associated dialog.
The Control Board is a set of panels each of which deals with one specific characteristic of the active document. You have separate overviews of the document Headings, Bookmarks, Sections, Styles, and Lists. Also the Control Board includes the Format Palette and Clip Library as separate panels.
The Rulers display information about formatting of the selected paragraphs and the margins of the current document page.
The Document Window displays the contents (text, pictures, special symbols, etc) of the active document. In the document window you can type text, select fragments of your document, and make many various operations on the document contents.
The Document Bar of Atlantis works similarly to the Windows Taskbar. But instead of displaying currently working applications as buttons, each button of the Document Bar corresponds to a document currently open in Atlantis. The main purpose of the Document Bar is switching among open documents.
The Status Bar displays various information about the active document. Most of its sections can be double-clicked to launch a feature corresponding to this section.
The Scrollbars can be used for scrolling the contents of the document window in order to bring into a view a portion of the document which is currently not visible. The document window can be also scrolled with the keyboard (the cursor keys) and the mouse wheel.
Tips:
Use the View commands of the main menu to show or hide the desired components of the Atlantis main window.
You can quickly hide most of the components of the Atlantis main window by right-clicking them, and choosing the Hide command from the menu.
