Atlantis Word Processor 4.3.7 (beta)

Post by admin »

Atlantis Word Processor 4.3.7 is available for betatesting.

This version introduces new color modes of the Atlantis GUI: Light, Dark, and Custom. You can quickly switch between the color modes with a click to a new status bar section:

With the “Auto” option checked, Atlantis automatically activates its Light or Dark color mode depending on the active color mode of Windows:

Note: the “Auto” option is available under Windows 10 (or higher).

The color modes of Atlantis can be customized through the “Colors” tab of the “Tools | Options...” dialog:

Hi admin,
My additions to the Customize Hyphenation patterns are not being saved. I found this when noticing excessive space between words in a line of text and seeing the name starting the next line had already been entered to that list. When I went to enter that name Add came up instead of the button being grayed out which would indicate it was already in the list. This is true of beta a4 and a version before that I do not recall.

I cannot notice any problem with the hyphenation feature. I can add new hyphenation patterns without a problem. They get saved on close correctly, and reloaded next time I start Atlantis.

Two notes though. First, since version 4.3.5, hyphenation patterns for US English and UK English are kept separate. Please make sure that you do not have a mix of English dialects in your document. Second, Atlantis saves its settings on close. If you have two differently configured instances of Atlantis running concurrently (which is not recommended), only the settings of the last closed instance of Atlantis would prevail.

If you still believe that there is a problem, and it is reproducible on your system, please email your Atlantis.ini to support@atlantiswordprocessor.com, and tell how to recreate the situation.

Hi admin,
You pointed out what my problem is. I recently changed to running 2 instances of Atlantis because I got tired of having to resize Atlantis every time I opened it up as It would be full screen and never the size it was previously closed at for the 2nd instance. I always closed the book input instance first, the one that did 99% of hyphenation entry. I will go back to only using 1 instance of Atlantis and dragging it to my word processing screen when I start book entry for the day.

Edit: It seems that initially I misunderstood what is regarded as part of the GUI. If I am right, both "Main GUI" and "Document Color Preset" / "Document colors" are seen as part of the GUI respectively are influenced by the color mode. So I modified my following posting:

My suggestions for the tab "Colors" are:

1. ---

2. The second line ("Colors of the selected mode") should end with a colon (:) instead of the long horizontal line.

3. ---

4. It would be fine if a chosen/created color scheme ("Main GUI color") could be saved so that the user could have one (or more) favorite color schemes accessible by a mouse click. (Similar to the possibility to save a Design in Windows.)

The horizontal line plays a role of a colon.

In version 4.3.7, there are three color modes of Atlantis: Light, Dark, and Custom. You can activate any of them. You can also customize each of them. “Main GUI color” is a property of a color mode. You can change “Main GUI color” for each color mode individually.

I meant the following:

Let's assume I have chosen the (Main GUI) color you can see in the picture below (something like blue) (for the color mode "Light" or whatever).

It would be useful if there were an option to save for example this color as a favorite (something like: "Save as 'Color Scheme 1' "). So later I could immediately activate it again, e.g. if I had experimented in the meantime with another color, or I could activate it instantly in another color mode (without the necessity to create it again from scratch).

Version 4.3.7 does not have color schemes. And you do not activate the GUI color. You activate one of three color modes of Atlantis – Light, Dark, or Custom. The GUI color is a part (a component) of a color mode. Each color mode has its own GUI color. You can customize any of these three color modes of Atlantis in any way you wish. Just choose the color mode that you want to customize (select it at the top of the “Colors” tab of the “Tools | Options...” dialog), and specify the desired GUI color and document colors for this mode.

I don't understand what you mean (and obviously vice versa). But it's o.k. Thank you.

I think that three customizable color modes is more than enough. Creating more color modes, or adding new features to save/restore individual components of a color mode would be an overkill. It would be strange if, for example, the “Tools | Options... > Edit > Favorite Fonts...” dialog of Atlantis offered options to save/load different sets of “favorite fonts”. Or if the “Backup files” dialog allowed to create different sets of “backup files” settings. Such features would be completely unnecessary, distracting, and confusing.

You have 3 color modes in Atlantis. If their defaults are OK with you, use them as is. Or customize them in any way you wish.

Absolutely. No doubt from my side about that.

That's what I meant in essence. The component I thought of would be the "Main GUI color". Similar to what can be the done with the "Themes" in Windows ["Designs" was the wrong term I had used somewhere above]. And not necessarily for a number of customized Main GUI colors. Just for one would be sufficient to my mind.

But of course this can be regarded as an overkill too. So I am fine with how it is planned in 4.3.7. No problem.
