Tables and adding columns

Post by Janderson »

I am a refugee from Word and just found Atlantis Word Processor. So far I like it, except for a tables problem. I use tables for horse pedigrees and human ancestry charts. Word could do this very well, Atlantis not so much.

I cannot copy and paste a table pedigree inside another table cell without problems. Is this possible to do?
The table seems rather difficult to move. Have to try to find that little mark at top left.

The biggest issue is when I create a document using page wide cells in a table. Makes it neater and easier to follow the text. But if I try to copy a table to one of those cells, the cell has to be empty or there is chaos. Sometimes I have resorted to remaking the pedigree in the empty cell rather than paste it.

However, each time a pedigree is put in one of those page wide cells, the border of the last cell insists on meeting the right border of the page width table cell. Move the last border pedigree toward the left? Certainly, but the page width cell comes along with it.

I was not so thrilled with how Word does tables, but it seems to cause less aggravation that Atlantis does. Unless I am missing something. As I said, I am a newbie.

Atlantis doesn’t support nested tables (tables within a table cell) or floating tables (text wraps around the table). Atlantis in general isn’t the best tool for composing charts.

It would be easier to make suggestions if you posted a sample MS Word document. Anyway, have you had a chance to check the articles in the Atlantis Word Processor Help on tables?

Thank you for your interest in Atlantis Word Processor.

You might want to look at some free, open-source software (FOSS) for doing what you are interested in.

I googled this:

Is there any free, open-source software for pedigree and genealogy?

and got lots of information. In particular, you might want to look at a program called Gramps. I read part of the Wikipedia article on it, and it has been used for animal pedigrees.

I mean, it is free, and it is highly recommended.

You may know about it already. But, again, it is free and well-respected.

Good luck!
