Backups not being saved?

Post by stuartnz »

This issue seems related to the problem with the Favourites folder.

Checking my Backup/Save settings, I see this:

but when I click on "Browse Backup Folder", I get this:

This seems to be very similar to the problem with the Favourites folder - everything appears OK, still set to default values, but nothing is actually getting saved.

The first screenshot shows the appearance of subfolders for each doc, as per the backup settings, but if I search my computer for those folders, the result is "no items match your search".

Atlantis does create backup copies of your documents. But your Windows does not like where Atlantis saves backups. Under Windows Vista or Windows 7, when an application tries to create a file under the "Program Files" folder, Windows redirects write operations and read operations to a user-specific location in the user's profile folder (by default, to "C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\<application_name>"). You can find more details here and here.
But I cannot say why there is no "Compatibility files" button in your Windows Explorer when you view the Atlantis "Backup" folder.

The current default folders for backups, favorites, templates etc in Atlantis Word Processor are a legacy compatibility burden from a decade ago when most users had Windows 9x. We plan to drop support for Windows 9x in Atlantis Word Processor soon. The default locations for Atlantis data files will be changed then.
