Backspace with Cap on doesn't work
Hi. I sometimes making typing errors when I'm using the Shift (Capital) button and notice that for some reason Atlantis has that disabled and I must release the Capital button before erasing the character. Is there anyway to enable this button? I sometimes write fast and have numerous corrections, and I'm just not wired for a multi-step task as required in Atlantis.

This should not be happening. Atlantis never disables any key automatically.
However, this could occur if you have reassigned the Backspace key to a different command in Atlantis.
Here is how to proceed to check this:
1. Open the Atlantis “Tools | Hot Keys…” dialog. The “File | Create a new document” command should be selected by default.
2. Click in the “Hot Key” box.
3. Press the Backspace key on your keyboard.
4. Click the “Assign…” button.
5. You should get a message warning you that the Backspace key is already assigned to the “Delete selection / character before cursor” command. This is the default assignment.
6. Click “No” to close the warning message and leave this default key assignment AS IS.
7. If this default assignment was changed, and you get a message saying that the Backspace key is already assigned to a different command, we recommend that you restore the Backspace key to its original assignment (“Delete selection / character before cursor” ).
Otherwise, there might be a problem on your system.
Or maybe you have a utility that reassigns keys?
Cheers

Thanks for the response. I tried this, just as you suggested, but had no luck. That key, Capital/Backspace, does not seem to have anything assigned to it, either.
This key, or function, or whatever you want to call it, has never worked for me. I do not have any type of software on my computer that would affect this, and I haven't modified Atlantis, other than to remove the wave sound on start up. I have only reassigned a few keys in MS Word to add some symbols I use a lot (I haven't done this in Atlantis yet.) My computer is one year old and I have had no other problems with it. I use WinXP pro.
What sorts of programs would automatically reassign keys?
Perhaps a fresh install of Atlantis? How do I do that? I bought it online.

I am not sure I understand what you mean by this.
First, Backspace and Capital (usually referred to as “Caps Lock”) are two completely different keys.
You also wrote “having problems with backspace when I have the shift key down” in another thread. The Shift key and the Backspace keys are two completely different keys altogether. And there is no reason why you should hold the Shift key down when pressing the Backspace key. At best, this would achieve nothing, unless you have assigned “Shift+Backspace” to some command in Atlantis.
Finally, do you mean to say that the Backspace key is not assigned to any command in your Atlantis?
If this is the case, it is the cause of your troubles with it in Atlantis.
Could you please try the following:
1. Open Atlantis.
2. Run the “Tools | Hot Keys…” command.
3. In the Hot Keys dialog, click the “Edit” category.
4. Click in the “Commands” scrolling box on the right, then type “d”.
5. Press the down arrow on your keyboard middle pad. This should select the “Delete selection / character before cursor” command.
6. Have a look at the “Hot Key” box (bottom left). Does it read “BkSp”?
a. If it does, this means that the Backspace key is assigned to the “Delete selection / character before cursor” command (this is the default value).
b. If it does not read “BkSp”, then you need to re-assign the Backspace key to the “Delete selection / character before cursor” command. This is done simply by clicking in the “Hot Key” box, then pressing the Backspace key on your keyboard. Finally, press the “Assign” button in the Hot Key dialog and OK out of it.
Try to use the Backspace key. Does it work now?
As a last resort, you could check if your Backspace key is working in the Windows NotePad. If it isn’t, your problem is system-wide. If it is, it might have something to do with your install of Atlantis. You could try to restore the original default settings of Atlantis. This is done by launching Atlantis with the “-dls” parameter. The command-line is: Atlantis.exe -dls
Hope this helps.

Hi again!
I just thought of something.
Would you by any chance have the Windows StickyKeys option on?
This might also be the cause of your problem.
Please have a look at the following page:

I do apologize for the confusion.
What I "really" mean is when I hold down the SHIFT key to type capitals, and while I continue to hold it down, the BACKSPACE does not work in Atlantis. I checked and this feature works in my other programs MS Word, Word Perfect, NotePad, and NoteTab (like NotePad.)
Sorry about that confusion.
I followed the directions for checking to see if sticky key is on, and I do not have a keyboard TAB, as described in the link you pasted. I did use the Classic View but found no heading as described. I do have an icon for my keyboard, but that only has two tabs: Speed and Hardware. In the Category View, I have an Accessibility Options icon, but that only lists two tasks, one for adjusting the contrast for screen text and color, and another to configure for wision, hearing, and mobility needs. There is also a "See Also" box that displays a Magnifier and an On-Screen Keyboard. When I hit the later, I get an error message that says a particular program cannot be found, "C:\\WINDOWS\system32\accwiz.exe. Perhaps there was an option for that during Windows installation?

Re:Backspace key not working (3)
Greetings–
I just checked this. You are right, the Backspace key is not working in Atlantis when you hold the Shift key down at the same time. We are looking into this. Still I do not understand why you’d want to do it. Why not release the Shift key when you are using the Backspace key? This is what most people do.
Cheers
