Using Powertoys Hot Keys has unexpected problem

Post by mswelshmi »

In writing a novel and other notes, I have character names / words that have accented characters.
I have mapped these accented characters to hot-keys using Microsoft Powertoys (Windows), such as alt-a to give á. There are many characters and symbols mapped this way à é í ó ú ⚭♂♀αΩ°⚯ ←↑→↓▲

Problem: In the Atlantis Editor, typing the character name, then using a Hot-Key to add the accented character, the accented character is added but also a space before the added character. Ciarán becomes Ciar án. I've Auto-corrected for most of the names, but frequently, I have to add the single character since I have many words. Using the Powertoy key in the dialogs works fine, it is only in the Editor. In both Word, OneNote and elsewhere this doesn't happen. And I've allowed for the space using the odd symbols.

Thanks for your attention.

Mike

PS: thanks for fixing the One-Note external links.

As I understand, you mean the "Keyboard Manager" tool of Microsoft PowerToys. It inserts text into a document via pasting. Atlantis assumes that the pasted text contains whole words. This is why the "Smart cut & paste" option of Atlantis may add spaces before/after the pasted clip. There will be changes in the next build of Atlantis regarding this.

By the way, Atlantis offers multiple ways to insert characters not available directly through the keyboard.

P.S. I don't think it is a good idea to use shortcuts like Alt+A since they by default are reserved for accessing GUI controls.

May I report in this context a behaviour which seems to be more or less the opposite of the described one: Atlantis in certain cases removes (desired) spaces.

I experience it with the symbol 2192 (hexadecimal code), that is the rightwards arrow.

When I insert it directly from the character map*, I think that the arrow seems to be placed "correctly", that means with the spaces I have determined before clicking the button "Insert" (e.g. one space before and one space after the arrow).

But later on - when the symbol is in the clipboard (either in the usual one, either in the one I use primarily, namely a software called "ClipCache") - all spaces are removed by Atlantis after pasting. You can see an example in the following picture:

The "Smart cut & paste" option of the next build of Atlantis will be smarter regarding clips beginning/ending with spaces/tab characters or containing only punctuation signs or special characters.

With version 5.0.3 the pasting of the rightwards arrow works fine. :D Thanks.
