Problems with ePubs generated starting 4.4.5.6

Post by Alan »

Starting with Atlantis version 4.4.5.6, and the version after, the ePub generated has noticeable differences. I finished reading an ePub on my Kobo reader of a book I had scanned into my computer using Atlantis and generated and loaded a new one incorporating all changes made in the Rich Text file. On my reader I use thumbnails (of the cover page) as more books are listed on each screen. My cover page is the book title and author. To make the thumbnail readable the font size is 33 points and as I consider this similar to a header I center it. On the reader the cover text in the thumbnail is unreadable (small size, maybe 9 point) and left aligned. Similar things happen with the title pages. The same also happens with Adobe Digital Editions when opening the same file on my computer. I double checked and the corresponding paragraph styles in the RTF remain unchanged and specifically set font size and alignment. Moving back to version 4.4.5.5 the generated ePub looks good, the same as in the past.

As I understand, your source document includes paragraphs formatted with the “do not hyphenate” attribute of the paragraph format. Version 4.4.5.6 is supposed to export this attribute to the EPUB format. However, there is a bug in the “Save as eBook” module of 4.4.5.6 and 4.4.6 because of which Atlantis may fail to add a semicolon after the “hyphens” attribute in the CSS file. You can change the file extension of your EPUB file to .zip, open it with the file manager, then open the “Ops\style.css” file with a plain text editor. If it contains “hyphens:none” not followed by a semicolon, this is what causes the problem with the display in eReaders. Will be fixed in the next build. Sorry for this.
