Lost RTF first line

I have Atlantis version 4.4.5.3 and normally I love it. I create a lot of my RTFs in Word 2007 as that allows me to change the style of just one word or phrase in a paragraph instead of Atlantis applying a style to the whole paragraph. My problem is that an RTF saved like this:

^p
Chapter Twenty
^p
^p
^p
First line of document chapter

comes out in Atlantis like this:
^p
Chapter Twenty
^p
^p
^p
First line of document chapter.

I can't put the caret on that first line and click on enter to add the missing line either. Can anyone tell me how to get that missing line back or at least the ability to enter to get two lines!
