How to undo auto-indent?

Post by wood.22mark »

AWP 4.4.6.2

Good morning! AWP did something odd today. It suddenly decided to auto-indent as if creating bullets. I have "Automatic bulleted and numbered lists" disabled in the autocorrect options.

How do I undo this? When I cut and paste text from this doc to a new document, the formatting remains (when it is not helpful). Must I retype?

Also, how do I prevent this from happening? The document I'm working with could benefit from bulleting but I don't use it because I copy text from this document to other docs and that formatting is not helpful there.

Example given:

maka:
1. [Tocharian B] many, much, very much.
maka-natsetstse:
1. [Tocharian B] having great need.
maka-onolmesse:
1. [Tocharian B] having a multitude of people, populous.
maka-pew:
1. [Tocharian B] having many feet.
maka-yakne: {maka-ykne};
1. [Tocharian B] in manifold ways, manifold; whatever.

When I try to cut and paste one of the indented items, the indenting remains, even when I backspace or delete.

Edit: Oh, drat. The indenting disappears when viewed on the forum. Gnashing of teeth. The entries after "maka:" are child entries, all indented. I see why the document decided it needed auto-indenting. How do I stop it, though? Also, why, on an old document with over 7000 words, does AWP suddenly decide to 'help' format my document?

Thank you.

If you type a line of text starting with a number plus period or closing bracket, plus a space or tab character, and then press Enter, Atlantis may convert it into an automatic list. You can uncheck the “Automatic bulleted and numbered lists” option in the “Tools | AutoCorrect Options…” dialog. Or you can undo individual automatic corrections by pressing Ctrl+Z. So, after you have pressed the Enter key, and Atlantis created an automatic numbered list, you can press Ctrl+Z to undo the autocorrection.

control-z; I will try that. Thank you.

Edit:
didn't help. maybe I'm using it incorrectly? I tried two things. I highlighted the entire doc with control-a then hit control-z. no joy. I tried highlighting the one part of the doc that is auto indented. control z. no change.

Ctrl+Z undoes the last performed action. I suggested to press Ctrl+Z right after you have pressed Enter and Atlantis created an automatic list.

To remove automatic numbering from the selected paragraphs, you can use the “Remove numbering” button of the context “Numbered list” toolbar:

It's not auto-numbering nor is it adding bullets (I delisted that option in the autocorrect options).

I'm not sure why it's happening. It only happens in that part of the document. I retyped the entry manually. I had to try three times before the autocorrect indenting stopped. Weird. Might be a bug?

The control-z worked but it did not correct the problem. Enter, auto-indent. Grrr. control-z. Enter, auto-indent, grr. Go back a line. Retype. Enter. No autocorrect. But on the next line after hitting enter, same trouble. Eventually it tired of altering my document. Does AWP use AI?

Anyway, resolved but not fixed. Thank you.

Only Natural Intelligence in Atlantis. :)

Can you post a sample document file with those "auto indents"? You can attach a document file to your forum post. Or send the document file to support@atlantiswordprocessor.com.

Yes. I found a version with the error in my autosave backup files. Search for "maka:"

What does it mean -- not downloaded yet? Is it something I failed to do or is it telling me that you have not looked at it yet?

Right.

Thanks for the document file. If you enable the “View | Special Symbols” mode (Ctrl+Shift+8) in Atlantis, you will notice tab characters in front of most paragraphs in your document. If you pasted these paragraphs from another document, possibly these tab characters were contained within the original text.

You can use the Find/Replace tool of Atlantis to remove the tab characters from your document if you don't need them:

1. Press Ctrl+H.
2. Type ^t into the “Find what” box.
3. Leave the “Replace with” box blank.
4. Click “Replace All”.

Thank you! That worked. control-shift-8 is a shortcut. Is there a way to find this command in the Tools or Help of AWP?

Nevermind. I found it, under View. That's the tool I needed. Again, thanks.
