Characters move while typing

Post by JPh1 »

In the editor I noticed some previously typed letters move as I type. There is no text justification and the parameters are standard (Windows 8, rtf file, no zoom, font size 11). It happens with all fonts except monospace fonts.
Has anyone observed this as well?

Characters moving

Post by rstroud »

Except for heads, I almost always justify text. I am accustomed to seeing some slight movement as the line goes about justifying itself. It is so slight that I hardly notice it.

However, I checked to see about any movement in unjustified text. I could see some occasional movement, but really not much, not enough to be distracting.

Is this a new phenomenon? I think that I have seen the same thing in all Windows environments.

I suspect that it has something to do with the use of a proportionally spaced font (i.e., not monospaced). My guess: The program is optimizing the space between characters and words and determining whether it needs to wrap to the next line. But I really do not know.

It is quite noticeable, as you can see in this very short video. It doesn't happen in other word processors I use on my Windows 8 system: Notepad, MS Word, Scrivener, etc.

Is there a way around this?

There is no setting in Atlantis Word Processor that you could select to disable this behavior. Sorry.
Anyway I personally find this issue purely cosmetic and barely noticeable to be a source of any inconvenience.

I am not sure that there is a change in version 3.3.2 regarding intercharacter spacing.

You're right, I was mistaken, unfortunately.

The next maintenance release of Atlantis Word Processor (4.0.0.1) will have this issue addressed.

Version 4.0.0.1 is already available. You can use the "Help | Check for Updates..." menu command to update.
