Clip Library of quotes & citations

Post by Shan »

Robert I am struggling with how to organise a large number of quotes and citations. I would love to do it in Atlantis not add another program. There are specialist softwares but having tested many none are good. They all impose difficulties of their own.

Currently I have a lot of study documents e.g. Ford, Mabinogi (1977)
with list topics A-Z. These primary topics often have a list of sub-topics.
Entries under a topic/ subtopic are either a few words description plus page ref. OR a quote plus page ref.

I started merging some of these in a coordinated Index but there are so many! Already 100s and will be easily 2,000 or more.

Plus I have to keep cross referencing e.g. a HORSE topic as a primary topic, plus it appears under the bibliog ref. for a book source, plus under maybe 3 characters in various books.
Like this:

Ford, Mabinogi (1977)
....Horse Mare p. 13, Hero falls off p. 20; Q 'the anomalous ride appears to be a mediaeval custom' p. 9;
HORSE Ford 1977/
....Anomalous ride see Ford/Horse; RHIANNON
.... Mare see WJG 1953; Ford 1977; Sullivan 1996;
....Teyrnon's vigil Pennar PhD, p. 238;
Pennar PhD
.. Teyrnon's vigil p. 238;
RHIANNON
.... Anomalous ride see Ford Q; Pennar PhD, p. 238, pp. 256-59, p. 280, pp. 325-32;
.... Horse see WJG 1953; Ford, Mabinogi,1977; Sullivan Anthology; see HORSE
TEYRNON
....Horse Pennar PhD, p. 238;
.... Wife Pennar PhD, p. 238; 420; 510;

I am looking at making folders in the Clip Library and enabling Replace as you type. Then I can get the list in the body of the document which I think is more extensive than the small box I can see on the left.

Folders would be the primary entries and sub-entries.
There would still be so many! The quantity gets bloated a lot by duplication under diiferent headings which I struggle to handle by cross referencing.

Plus cross referencing would have to be done from memory of what the entries are where a topic belongs. There can be 6 -10 entries where one entry belongs.
In a document I currently scroll down and that reminds me which entry headings are the most relevant to place a cross reference pointer. But this is quite laborious.

Ideally I'd love to TAG the entries in the Clip Library.
So all the ones I gave as examples above would have the Tag 'Horse' but only some would have 'Mare'.or Pennar PhD.
Ford Mabinogi (1977) and Pennar PhD would have the Tag 'Scholar'
Search on Scholar + Horse to get comments by Scholars on topic Horse.
Rhiannon and Teyrnon are Characters so Tag search Character + Horse etc.

Tes idees sont toujours tres utile.. Merci.

Shan, I am afraid this cannot be accomplished in Atlantis. At least not until Index Tables are supported. You’ll have to use specialized software. You might want to take a look at this page American Society for Indexing – Dedicated Software
HTH.
Cheers,

I would suggest having a look at help authoring software such as Help & Manual or HelpNDoc. You could include an index with keywords to your specification. HTML output with full text search would enable display of search hits in context in a similar way to your horse example.
