Unicode support

Post by feraudyh »

Hi,
I regularly write documents with Unicode characters (especially in Mathematics).
Here are some examples:
∞ infinity
≥ greater or equal to
≤ less than or equal to
⊂ subset of
⊆ subset or equal to
∈ element of
≜ delta equal to
∅ empty set
↦ maps to
→ rightwards arrow
∆ delta increment
∩ intersection
∪ union
× multiplication
− subtraction
√ square root
ℝ double struck capital R
ℚ double struck capital Q
ℕ double struck capital N
ℤ double struck capital Z
Half of these do not paste correctly into Atlantis.
yours truly

Codes for Marthematical Symbols

Post by Robert »

Hi Henri,
You need to use a font containing the desired characters. Not all fonts contain glyphs corresponding to mathematical symbols. Attached “Codes for Mathematical Symbols.docx” gives the “ALT+” codes to use to insert the symbols you mentioned in your OP. Note that it uses the “Cambria Math” font appropriately. You could also use “Arial Unicode MS”, “Microsoft Sans Serif”, or “DejaVu Sans”, for example. If you need more codes to insert mathematical symbols, you’ll find them at Unicode Character Finder. The codes to use are the numbers given as part of the “HTML entity”.

Note that the multiplication sign is a special case in both Atlantis and MS Word. You need to use the ASCII code (Alt+158) instead of the code for the corresponding “HTML entity” (215).
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert
