Greek and Coptic characters

Post by Robert »

Hi,
At times, some of you might need a font with full support for the Unicode range of Greek and Coptic characters (Range: 0370–03FF).
Very few, if any, of the native Windows fonts support all these characters. For example, the character with code point U+037F (GREEK CAPITAL LETTER YOT) is generally unsupported. It is then displayed as a blank square (placeholder). You can test this by going to local font list.
If you need a font with full support for the Unicode range of Greek and Coptic characters, you could download and install “The Cardo Font” on your system. Here is an excerpt from this page:
Cardo is a large Unicode font specifically designed for the needs of classicists, Biblical scholars, medievalists, and linguists. Since it may be used to prepare materials for publication, it also contains features that are required for high-quality typography, such as ligatures, text figures (also known as old style numerals), true small capitals and a variety of punctuation and space characters. It may also be used to document and discuss the features of Unicode that are applicable to the these disciplines, as we work to help colleagues understand the value (and limitations) of Unicode.
The Cardo Font is free and is released under the SIL Open Font License, version 1.1.
Searching for the Greek and Coptic Unicode range of characters in Atlantis can be done through the following wildcard pattern:
Find What: [^u880-^u1023]
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert
