Pasting something copied from FireFox

Post by mikespeir »

Whenever I paste a word I've copied from FireFox into Atlantis the result is garbage. What's wierd is that I can paste from the same copy several times and get different garbage each time. BTW, this doesn't happen when I paste into any other text editor, only Atlantis. Any ideas?

Hi Mike,
Which Windows system are you running?
Do you have the same problem with Internet Explorer or any other browser you might have?
Do you have the same problem if you copy text from a text editor like the Windows Notepad or Wordpad?

In the meantime, you could use drag & drop to copy/paste into Atlantis. Most likely the pasting would be correct then.

HTH.

It only seems to happen when I've copied from FireFox, not from anything else. However, I can copy something from FireFox and paste it successfully into any other text processor or WordPad.

I've tried your drag-and-drop idea. It does work, but that's no solution. Way too inconvenient and cumbersome.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.

Most likely, some application is having a lock over your Windows Clipboard.

Could you please download this MS utility http://windowsxp.mvps.org/temp/GetOpenClipboardWindow.zip, extract “GetOpenClipboardWindow.exe” from it, and run it on your system. This utility should be able to determine which application is creating problems when you try copy/paste into Atlantis.

Well, that doesn't seem to have done much. I copied a word off of FireFox (this forum, in fact), ran the little utility, which reported no problems, and then tried a paste into Atlantis. Garbage, as always.

I'm wondering if it might be something in one of my antivirus or anti-malware programs, but I can't imagine why it would only affect Atlantis. I'm going to poke around in those for a while.

Well, well! It seems to be something to do with WebRoot. If I turn it off, copy from FireFox, and paste into Atlantis, it works right. Turn it back on again--same copy on the clipboard--and I get junk again. I'll talk to WebRoot. How much would you like to bet they'll fob the problem off on Atlantis, though?

They probably will. But the Atlantis developers will have to determine why Atlantis is the only application having such a conflict with WebRoot.
This said, WebRoot might have some setting allowing you to register Atlantis as a safe application. This has to be done with Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 7, or Windows Defender in Windows 8 to avoid unusual startup delays. For full details, please have a look at Troubleshooting startup issues under Windows 7 & Windows 8

Hi Mike,
It appears there is a WebRoot option to register applications as “safe” applications. Another WebRoot user told us that pasting in Atlantis started working normally after he had given Atlantis all the required permissions in WebRoot.

So all you need to do is grant Atlantis all the required permissions with WebRoot.

Ah, thanks. I haven't heard back from WebRoot yet, but I'll try what you suggested.
