BUG in long date format (Czech)

Post by kyknos »

oooooooh one more))))))

in czech language, when saying something like 30 december
you have to use slight different gramatical ... simply the name of the month is not in nominative

woindows reflects its ok.... u can see in windows dialog 30 prosinCE

but Atlantis uses nominative 30 prosinEC

which is gramatically incorect

Regrettably Atlantis knows nothing about the specifics of the Czech grammar.

czech grammar

Post by kyknos »

atlantis does not but windows do... it is only matter of grabbing the right string from the OS, nothing more. It does not grab long date format from windows now as it is, but it surely can if repaired (many aplications do)

the proof

on the image, there is a screenshot under czech windows 2000
look to the right, there is windows control panel with date settings,
in czech, but all things are probably on the same places as in english version

you can see LONG DATE FORMAT as shown in Windows itself down there
- dlouhy format data -
(there is written december = prosinCE, not in nominative, gramatically correct)

but in the left, in Atlantis, you can see prosinEC, in nominative, gramatically incorect in this place

windows surely knows both versions and uses them in corect places. however atlantis does not grab windows long date string directly,
but from somewhere inside the OS grabs nominative form of month name
and formats it according to long date format... the result is this error

Image

could it be repaired so it grabs long date format as in windows itself?
or is it posiible to add an option of date format definition ïnside Atlantis? with custom month names included?

Re: Date formatting

admin wrote: The 5th date format from the drop-down menu of the Insert date toolbar button contains exactly the Long Date format.
in my previous message there is a prof that this sentence is simply not true
on the 5th, nor 6th (newer version of AOM has probably added some extra formats) nor anywhere else is exactly the Long Date Format

(((

may be, in english systems, by mere coincidence is
but generally, this is simply not true

i am sorry i do not want to find errors every day, but i simply do it because i love atlantis, use atlantis and want it to be better and better )))
hope u understand

I understand your explanations but in this case the present version of Atlantis works as it is supposed (designed) to work. It does not support a so deep level of grammar analysis for international date/times.

simply, directly ...and correctly

This is the only place I could find to post the following: one can choose a default date format for Alt-Shift-D without going to Control Panel Regional Settings. Go to Insert > Date and Time and click on that. It opens a menu of many possibilities. Choose the date format you want and then click on the Default Date button. Then click on OK. From then on, the chosen format will be what you get with the Alt-Shift-D hot key.
