Running version 3 in Linux

Post by freecicero »

I am having problems getting version 3 with the new toolbar to run in Linux, when I never had any problems with previous versions. I am using crossover, and I am getting various errors mostly seeming to be related to "out of memory" conditions. the program starts, but freezes until the out of memory error occurs.

I don't know how many others use Atlantis in Linux but I thought I would start this separate thread to see if anyone else was interested in helping figure this out. Now that the interface is so customizable I really want to keep up with the latest versions in Linux.

Any clue as to a programming component or dll that mght have changed in version 3 that might allow running under linux? Crossover and wine allow lots of customization but so far I've not been able to hit on any component that is needed due to the new interface. A .Net version maybe?

Plenty of things have changed in version 3.x.

Atlantis Word Processor does not require Microsoft .NET.

thanks for the info and I will keep testing. So far I have confirmed that the problem exists on both my Manjaro and my Debian-based systems.

The errors seem to occur on program opening and closing, possibly associated with the file open/save actions. On opening, once I get the out-of-memory error and click through it, the program seems to begin operating fine, until such time as I go to save and close out of the program, at which time it crashes again (this time fully) while exiting.

I will keep testing and see what I can contribute.

FWIW, here is my error log through Crossover, with the most important issues presumably at the bottom:

Do you get errors if you launch a test copy of Atlantis with the factory settings:

Thank you for your input. I tested by launching "C:\Program Files\Atlantis\awp.exe" -dls -dss and I got exactly the same error.

I had set Atlantis up in a new crossover bottle, so I was not using any settings from an earlier version.

I take back my last answer. When I started it with the switches, it still gave the out of memory error on opening, but it did allow me to save my document, save my registration code (or so it appears), and exit without crashing.

But restarting with the same switches resulted in an unregistered default copy,

If I now start without the switches I get the same crashes as before

Starting with only the -dls switch resulted in the same crash on opening, and then gave me the same crash on closing, as if I had used no switch.

Just to update my efforts, last night I installed the latest version on Play on Linux. It installs fine, and seems to start fine, but immediately goes into the same mode as I experienced before where it starts continuously spinning the hard disk. This time, unlike with Crossover, it never comes out of the error. It locks up the computer completely and requires a reboot to get out of the error. Reviewing the error log did not lead to anything different than the Crossover error log (sorry I don't have it in front of me to repost but it referred to a page fault at a particular location, without any other info).

Today I see that Crossover was updated to version 17 with supposedly the latest in Wine advancements. So I downloaded and installed AWP3.

Similar errors, but today I notice that the initial "out of memory" error comes up while the program seems to be waiting on the control board to open. So maybe whatever the control board does to open is causing the problem.

After clicking through the exception out of memory error the program (including the control board) seems to function fairly normally. Saving a document even seems to work. But on file exit I get Exception Access violationat 0061DE75 in AWP.exe

The key part of the error code in the log file appears to be:

Code: Select all
