Atlantis as a gift for someone

An unusual question, I know ... I have a friend for whom I would like to purchase a gift copy of Atlantis. I would do this with PayPal or with a credit card. How do I do this? Do I just buy it for him under my name, send him the registration code, and tell him to download Atlantis? I already own thr...

Reading level

Very interesting. I have seen these measures before, but, very honestly, I never paid much attention to them. I took a chapter from a novel that I am working on and tested it here: http://www.readabilityformulas.com/free-readability-formula-tests.php The link above runs the text through seven tests....

When Atlantis creates the MOBI files, it uses the official Amazon KindleGen utility in the background. So these MOBI files are perfectly compliant with Amazon’s own conversion requirements. Note that you can convert the EPUB files created by Atlantis to the MOBI format manually yourself. You only n...

Opening epub

John, what you are asking for amounts to a second application (even if incorporated into Atlantis). I am sure that you are aware of this, since you use Sigil regularly. Sometimes it is just best to use a second application, which is likely to be much better, honestly, than something added as an &quo...

Thanks for the links, Robert. I do not have anything to publish right now, but I have some plans. And I have read the Smashwords manual several times. Mainly I was hoping that I could provide my own .mobi/.azw or whatever for Amazon instead of having to go through Amazon's own conversion process. I ...

Dixie, Not to belabor this issue ... but I find it puzzling. Did you ever actually use the Atlantis program before it disappeared? Or did the icon just disappear after you had used the program? (I realize that you could not find Atlantis.exe in the Atlantis folder. And I have to wonder, too, if any ...

Franklin, I am an advocate of using Atlantis for ebook production. (I am also a very big advocate of producing ebooks in general instead of having to deal with traditional hard-copy publishers, but that is a different issue.) Could you elaborate on any problems that you encountered? You mentioned so...

Screenplay text

Robert, Here is what typically happens. I will explain concisely but completely. The standard format for a screenplay is to have the page number on a line by itself in the upper-right corner of the page. This will be in a header. The usual problem is that someone sends a PDF, which has to be convert...

Great idea!

It is strange to me that no one has commented on this. I downloaded the updated Regex Library a few days ago, but I have not had a chance to investigate it. If this does what I think it does, it is exactly what I have needed for years. For example, I do a lot of file conversions in working with scre...

Thanks, Torben ... I took a look at the link. I did not try the program. That would be a good choice for someone who absolutely has to have tables and has limited hardware. The installation file is about one-tenth the size of the free OpenOffice/LibreOffice suites. The free version handles tables, a...

Jarhead, I thought I was somebody who always stayed way behind the cutting edge in computer hardware. But I think you have beaten me out on that score. If you cannot handle suites like Open Office, then you are probably just stuck. You might find a small application (maybe, somewhere) that will hand...

Thank you, Colorwheel!

That makes me feel better, because I had previously read that Atlantis runs all right under Wine.

Tables

Atlantis does a lot of remarkable things. First and foremost, for me, is that it produces the cleanest, most logical code for an epub file that you will find anywhere. Additionally, it handles most documents just fine and uses a traditional Windows interface (instead of the absurd "ribbon"...

Printing PDF

I am wondering if the first try (which does not actually print anything) is just a printer selection and not a print command. I have made this mistake before with programs. I tried to print ... but nothing happened, and then I discovered that I had not actually done anything but make a printer selec...

Well, I don't know why the original poster is having this problem. However, I tested Atlantis with a free PDF driver, PrimoPDF, and it worked fine on the first try. It does take the PDF driver a little while to load and do its work, but it only takes one try. PrimoPDF is the program that I recommend...

Ebook Covers

I know how difficult it can be to present a problem and make everything really clear. Sometimes I read what someone has posted here, I puzzle over it, and I finally give up. So ... here goes with a possible problem. I do not know if it is truly a problem, but I think that it is worth discussing. ISS...

A way to do it for free

C.J., Okay, let me try to post this picture. If it works, and you are interested, I will show you how to do this with the free IrfanView and the free plugins. It only takes about five easy steps. But I will have to wait till tomorrow to explain how to do this (it is about 3 A.M. now). Let me know if...
