A minority opinion here from someone who does not use dark backgrounds ...
If you are talking about the grey bar with FILE EDIT FORMAT, etc., I want to say that I think it looks very nice as it is in the graphic. The grey provides a pleasant and muted contrast to the black.
Uh, no ... It does not help at all. It is a cumbersome workaround. What we really need is a track-changes capability. In the meantime we have LibreOffice, which is also an excellent word processor (though it handles a few things in a less polished way than Atlantis does).
Yes, Atlantis Word Processor is superb. It is clean and logical in appearance and use. Handling of footnotes and endnotes is great. Page formatting is easy (paper type, margins, header, footer). Wonderful .epub export. Really nice features like the Clippy Bank (I use it a lot). But no Track Changes ...
I think this must have happened with the last update to Atlantis. I noticed that when an automatic line wrap occurred, I was getting some kind of typewriter sound (maybe an imitation of a carriage return?). Anyway, I checked Tools > Customize > Sounds. All the sounds were disabled. I discovered that ...
Of course I know the difference between lie and lay and their derivative forms with the prefix over- . I have taught English grammar at the university level, and I have a Master's degree in English and a Ph.D. in comparative literature. I have been writing and editing for over fifty years. I also ...
Alan, I am reluctant to mention this ... but it is just who I am. I would not want you to make this mistake in your work if you submit it somewhere or make it available to the public. ... 1st line is over lain with ... It should be overlaid with. The lie/lay verbs are two of the biggest problems in ...
But both show fine in Libre Office and Softmaker's Textmaker, the other word processors I have (for Track Changes). Yeah, I know about having to use LibreOffice for its Track Changes feature. Atlantis is my preferred word processor. Fast and uncluttered; great with styles; wonderful with footnotes ...
Robert, I followed your suggestion by trying "Factory Settings" (something that I had never done before). It made no difference. I suspect that this is a Windows 7 incompatibility with some component of the Atlantis code. I have a couple of Windows 10 computers. This old Windows 7 machine is just ...
To keep everything really simple here ... It appears that I was not using the most up-to-date version of Atlantis when I posted about the problem. I always have the current beta, and I thought that I was using it. I do not know what happened. However, I am now using 4.3.4.1 beta a0. The x-bar glyphs ...
The x-bar glyph A number of years ago I needed to help someone with "basic" statistics (actually, "basic" was pretty difficult :? ). I could never find a font that had an "x-bar" glyph, which is an 'x' with a macron directly over it. It represents a "sample mean" in statistics. Years later I ...
For the record, I am also using Noto Serif ver. 2.000. I downloaded the most current version available in January of 2023. It has the same information that Robert's version has. I am pretty sure that I downloaded it from Google, maybe from here: https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Serif Hex ...
Alan, this kind of thing is an area of interest of mine, and I deal with it all the time ... but I cannot follow what it is that you are asking. Just call me dumb -- it will not hurt my feelings. Here is what you need to do. Download the free BabelMap at https://www.babelstone.co.uk/Software ...
Sorry to be late coming back to the board. I have been very preoccupied for several days. Just for the record, here is a screen shot (zoom = 120%) from a document that uses Noto Serif (regular, italic) and Noto Sans Condensed (bold). It looks pretty good to me. It is sharper in Atlantis than it is ...
My original post was based on the behavior of the most up-to-date beta available at the time. I have now upgraded to 4.3.2.0 beta a1. The rendering has improved greatly. Thank you! The Noto Sans Condensed font that I used for the heads is bold in the definition of the style. One thing that may or ...
The rendering of the headline text is worse than it was before. The body text looks pretty good. But the characters in the heads are pushed together too close. I do not have a good example from a previous version of Atlantis, but I noticed the problem right away. So I compared the rendering of the ...
I have been using the US-International keyboard for over twenty years. I love it, even though I do not need the special characters (habló, Fuß, Füße, château) very often. I have tried to get other people, who only occasionally need the special characters, to adopt it, because becoming accustomed to i ...
Several times I have tried to add something to the Clip Library and have encountered a problem if I do it that way. I select a glyph of some kind, like ❖ and then right-click the selection. A context menu opens and gives me the option to save to the Clip Library. When I attempt to save, Atlantis t ...
