A comment and a couple of questions slightly related to the original problem.
First, I intend to use the Atlantis "Save as PDF" as much as I can. Atlantis is truly a wonderful application.
My questions:
1. What is so special about Sumatra PDF (which is free) that you want to use it preferentially ...

Re: Imported RTF from Word not formatting correctly
Okay ... I have been working with this kind of thing (styles, formatting, templates) for about forty years. I know that I could add another blank line at the top of your document, but I believe you when you say that you cannot. There must be something in the code that affects the addition of a blank ...

Atlantis v. 5.0.0.1
In searching for the straight double quote (decimal 34) I discovered that the search is stopping on the straight single quote (decimal 39).
I did not investigate further.

Re: How to prevent text such as "10/16" from displaying as a fraction by default
In my case, Atlantis is completely up to date at version 4.4.6.4.
I should have included that information. Sorry.
Windows (version 11) reports that my system is up to date. I checked the fractions issue again just now. Single-digit numbers like 7/8 will convert to a real fraction. But something ...

Re: How to prevent text such as "10/16" from displaying as a fraction by default
Interesting phenomenon. I could not reproduce it.
Atlantis has an option (Tools > Autocorrect Options) to produce fractions from things like 7/8 or 2/3. But I could not get it to work for numbers greater than a single digit.
Does it do this for other fractions like 11/13 or 10/19?

The PDF feature will be nice. Thank you for that.

If I understand what you are talking about, you can already do this. It has been a long time since I used the feature, but here is how I remember it.
You use the Control Board, where you select the Format Palette. You can create tags like SansSerif-10B (you create a name) for a desired font (e.g ...

A minority opinion here from someone who does not use dark backgrounds ...
If you are talking about the grey bar with FILE EDIT FORMAT, etc., I want to say that I think it looks very nice as it is in the graphic. The grey provides a pleasant and muted contrast to the black.

Re: Track changes
Uh, no ... It does not help at all. It is a cumbersome workaround. What we really need is a track-changes capability. In the meantime we have LibreOffice, which is also an excellent word processor (though it handles a few things in a less polished way than Atlantis does).

Re: Track changes
Yes, Atlantis Word Processor is superb.
It is clean and logical in appearance and use.
Handling of footnotes and endnotes is great.
Page formatting is easy (paper type, margins, header, footer).
Wonderful .epub export.
Really nice features like the Clippy Bank (I use it a lot).

Unwanted typewriter sound
I think this must have happened with the last update to Atlantis.
I noticed that when an automatic line wrap occurred, I was getting some kind of typewriter sound (maybe an imitation of a carriage return?).
Anyway, I checked Tools > Customize > Sounds. All the sounds were disabled. I discovered ...

Of course I know the difference between lie and lay and their derivative forms with the prefix over- . But both show fine in Libre Office and Softmaker's Textmaker, the other word processors I have (for Track Changes).

Re: How can I find the character code for a letter?
Robert, I followed your suggestion by trying "Factory Settings" (something that I had never done before). It made no difference.
I suspect that this is a Windows 7 incompatibility with some component of the Atlantis code.

To keep everything really simple here ...
It appears that I was not using the most up-to-date version of Atlantis when I posted about the problem. I always have the current beta, and I thought that I was using it. I do not know what happened. However, I am now using 4.3.4.1 beta a0.

Atlantis creates glyph, then destroys it
The x-bar glyph
A number of years ago I needed to help someone with "basic" statistics (actually, "basic" was pretty difficult :? ).
I could never find a font that had an "x-bar" glyph, which is an 'x' with a macron directly over it. It represents a "sample mean" in statistics. Years later I ...

ADDENDUM to my post above:
I checked the version of Noto Serif that you can download from here:
https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Serif
It is version 2.012, last modified in May of this year.

Re: How can I find the character code for a letter?
For the record, I am also using Noto Serif ver. 2.000. I downloaded the most current version available in January of 2023. It has the same information that Robert's version has. I am pretty sure that I downloaded it from Google, maybe from here:
