Hello,
When creating an ePub, is it better to name the inner XHTML files with an XHTML extension? I’m not sure if there would be any drawbacks; I think ePub supports only XHTML. The extension would also save time renaming the files if one later converts the ePub to version 3.

Ugh. I see you're gonna make me work to convince you, eh? Since you asked why not making a paragraph a (built-in) heading anyway, I could ask, why have the feature of setting an outline level for paragraphs, and even showing it in the Control Board? I think if you look at enough books (or do enough ...

Well, then that is something that differs from Word. You think it was intentional or was just forgotten? No big deal if you guys just missed it (since again I think it's not often used). Adding it would be nice. The reason it's necessary is you could have many heading 3s, that vary in style througho...

Hey Robert, Thanks for all the detailed help. Really didn't need to go thru all that effort; could have just said check out this, click that, and that would have been enough. Save yourself some work. :) I think I wasn't clear. I said Heading 1, 2, 3 (…) and meant those specific styles, the ones buil...

ePub - All heading level styles in TOC
Hey guys, Thanks again for all the help. I'm doing an ePub that has lots and lots of heading styles. They all belong in the Table of Contents though the styles vary a lot, it'd be a pain to do them all as Heading 3 and then fix later. I noticed save as ePub adds only Heading 1 2 and 3 to the TOC. An...

There's an idea. The book I'm scanning and turning into an ePub also has dropcaps. Though seems like it might be hard to get just right. From what I've read, it'll look and be spaced different with variations in font. If you want to be just right, you'll have to embed the font. If you're ok with a b...

Robert, Thank you so much for your continued help. I got an email yesterday with a bug fix for the page breaks. You guys are amazing. Yes, I'm aware of the differences between paragraph and character styles, and direct formatting. In the case of this document, there are only a few paragraphs that ar...

Robert, Thanks for the continued help. I don't normally go back and forth between Word and Atlantis. In one case, I had a 300meg .doc file that for some reason, didn't get shrunk (by removing unused objects) when saving. So I tried Atlantis. One of the things that happened, was I did little to the d...

I hope it's ok to ask here in the same thread. I noticed that paragraph styles with italics don't get the same in css. A span style is applied instead. Any idea if there's a reason for that? The other way seems cleaner. One of the issues I had with Atlantis was a paragraph style with italics. Within...

Sounds like I'll do something like that. Most of the ePubs I make are book scans for personal reading. Before, if I found errors, I would fix the Word file but now it's a bit of work and I just fix the ePub. For the Word doc, I could go back and change the paragraph style to be uppercase and that'd ...

I see. And Word does keep track of it as a character style. So back to my original request, hope someday Atlantis will use the original text and then apply a css style. The main reason I want it is for the TOC. I'd prefer the TOC to be normal case, while in the actual text, each heading is all upper...

Really Robert, I'm pretty good with Word, and haven't missed anything (I don't think), otherwise I wouldn't have asked this. :) I'm using the default Word styles Heading 1, 2 and 3. In my case (French Word), titled Titre 1, 2 and 3. Heading 1 and 2 are set for page break before, and Heading 3 is not...

Hey Robert, Thanks for the help. I'm aware that Atlantis splits up the files at 300k. The problem with this one, is let's say one H2 section has a hundred H3s. Each of them vary in size from a few lines to a few pages. Every H3 has it's own page. Perhaps a problem is I created the document in a loca...

Robert, About the uppercase, I'm using a keyboard shortcut (in Word) for it, and pressing it again does toggle the case. If I close and re-open the document, and try the shortcut it again, it reverts back to what it was before, so seems Word does keep track of the original case. For small caps, unde...

ePub - page breaks and font attributes
Hey, Am making a new ePub. It's a book of poetry and short pargraphs. Each one is an H3 heading. Seems Atlantis automatically creates a page break. It would be nice if, for each heading, the paragraph style setting was used : break or no break. In this particular book, there are hundreds of H3 secti...

Save to ePub - use original file names for images
Hi, I have a Word doc with about 300 images. After making the ePub, I'd like to add a lot of text anchor and hyperlinks with the book, to cross reference the images. I can sort of automate that if the image file names were as I named them, so they were easy to find, and maybe I could script somethin...

HTML cleanup for ePub
Hey, A lot of times in Word, cuz of search and replace or other things, the HTML code can get a bit messy. Like if something in a word .doc has attributes like bold or italic, and then I copy and paste, search and replace, or do something with it to insert other attributed text, when the same, I can...

yeah seems that's the way. from what I hear, there's no specified limit in the ePub spec but some ereaders have their limits. Not often do you see a paragraph like that so at least it's probably just for this case. On my Sony T1, it seems to work, though sometimes page breaks are strange and don't f...

thanks for checking it out. The issue is that the paragraph, in that book, really is that long (and it would be nice to keep without breaks if possible). The 300k limit, I've heard that's only an issue with older ADE readers? I've only looked at it in iBooks where it seems to be fine. Not sure, I wa...

Save to ePub problem - endless loop
Hi, I recently OCRed a book and tried to make an ePub. What happened what Atlantis endless looped, trying to save it, and keep overwriting the ePub and adding more HTML files. I'm not sure what was the issue. Maybe it was that this particular book had one paragraph (in trade paperback size) that's a...
