Switching between document and Control Panel with keyboard?

Post by janniklindquist »

Hi,

How can I change focus from document to Control Panel - and vice versa - using the keyboard? And is there a way to navigate the various functions and sub-functions on the Control Panel from the keyboard?

Thanks,
Jannik

Sorry but you need the mouse to use the Control Board. Each panel of the Control Board has its own design, and there is no universal way to manage all the panels through the keyboard. What's more, nearly all the commands of the Control Board panels are offered as toolbar buttons. You cannot access these commands without the mouse.

Hmm. IMHO, this is a strange limitation of such a brilliant product. Obviously, it's not a disaster - but it does seem out of sync with the otherwise highly impressive level of configurability in Atlantis. I hereby file a request for this to be changed :-)

Thanks,

It is hardly possible to have intuitive nonvisual interface for accessing/controlling complex objects like the Control Board.

All I'm asking for (!) is that as many as possible of the commands of the Control Board becomes accessible as menu-commands.

Unlike many other commands of Atlantis, the Control Board commands are contextual. They depend on the current contents and selection within a specific panel of the Control Board. Allowing to assign a hot key to a command of the Control Board (at least to most of them) does not make much sense. For example, how could you use a hot key assigned to, let's say, the "Edit properties of highlighted format" command of the "Format Palette" panel of the Control Board if this panel is not currently displaying?

But there is one command of the Control Board that has a hot key, and that can be placed onto the toolbars or included in the main menu of Atlantis. The "New bookmark" command of the Control Board does not require anything to be selected in the Bookmarks panel of the Control Board. You only need to make a selection in the document window. This is why this command is "global" (ie can be installed to the main menus and toolbars, and can have a hot key). But all other commands of the Control Board cannot be used in this way.
