I note when I use save as, that Atlantis always defaults back to the My Documents folderm whereas I would be more happy if it chose the same directory as the original document, unless otherwise indicated.

Wow... I knew it couldn't be that difficult... I think Atlantis is stunning and can't believe I spent so much time waiting for Abiword to mature (beyond alpha :(
Now all I need is my invoicing software to stop using Word templates to print and I can chuck MS!
