Screen disappeared! Help!

Post by mmeister »

Hello Atlantis users,

I tried to copy the atlantis.ats file from my beta 1.5.2 to the final version 1.5.2 directory and now I have lost both screens.

Double-clicking on the shortcut brings up the loading sound and the Tips, but no screen and no documents!!

Can anyone help?
Thanks, Maggie

I do not understand which screens you mean.

The Atlantis.ats contains the Atlantis toolbar settings. It could affect only the Atlantis toolbars.

You could (temporarily) move the Atlantis.ats to a different folder, then launch Atlantis. Does this make a difference?

The MAIN screen. The program. It is invisible.

The Atlantis.ats contains the Atlantis toolbar settings. It could affect only the Atlantis toolbars.

I had thought that my action somehow of trying to copy my changed toolbars to the main program would be ok and that it was indeed very clever to see that there was a toolbar setting file actually described in the Windows explorer.

You could (temporarily) move the Atlantis.ats to a different folder, then launch Atlantis. Does this make a difference?

No.

Perhaps the problem I am having has nothing to do with the toolbar file, but was just coincident with it? What could be causing the program not to show? As I mentioned, when I click on the shortcut I get the sound of the ocean as normal, then the Tips screen, then nothing. No program.

Thanks,
Maggie

BTW, yesterday before shutting down, I changed the options to allow Atlantis to go to the system tray. Could this be part of the problem somehow?

Thanks, Maggie

When the "Tips & Tricks" dialog is displaying, the main window of Atlantis should be displaying in the background too. Maybe you simply moved the Atlantis window out of the Windows screen?

When you double-click the Atlantis shortcut, and the "Tips & Tricks" dialog pops up, is the Atlantis task/apllication still running on your PC? Can you switch to Atlantis by pressing the Alt+Tab keys? Is the Atlantis button available in the Windows Taskbar?

Probably the following would help:

please restart your Windows, then choose "Start | Run", then type the following command-line:

"C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe" -DontLoadSettings

and press Enter (or click OK). This would force Atlantis to restore its default settings.

Note that your current settings would be lost (would be replaced with the default Atlantis settings) as well as you would need to enter you registration information again.

If you added the "-SystemTray" (or "-st") switch to the command-line of the Atlantis shortcut, Atlantis is placed to the system tray of Windows Taskbar every time you double-click this shortcut.

Maggie, normally you should not change options or add any switches if you are not completely sure that you do a right thing, and if you do not know how these changes might affect the behavior of software.
If you added the above switch to the command-line of the Atlantis shortcut indeed, you should remove it.

My fault! What you said to jog my mind about moving the window reminded me that shortly before closing last night, I moved the window over to the second monitor. Duh!

I am so very sorry to have bothered you with this panic. Thank you for all your help and congratulations on a beautiful new release, which has been working flawlessly for me.
