Post by caillean »

I woul like to keep Word 2000 as my default word processor. What should I do? Even if I open a Word document, then is saved as an Atlantis document.
Is it possible to have the two wp working independentely?

If Atlantis is now the default word processor for DOC files on your PC, this means that you have associated Atlantis with the DOC file extension.
If you used the Setup file of Atlantis or its "Tools | File Associations..." menu command to assiciate Atlantis with DOCs, you could use this "Tools | File Associations..." command to disassociate Atlantis from DOCs.

I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP WORD 2000 AS MY DEFAULT WORD PROCESSOR

Post by caillean »

Thank you for answering my post. I've probably didn't specified that I'm using Atlantis Nova and there's no Doc. taht I can choose, only RTF and.... I don't remember, buto not doc. format. It may be I have an older version, do you know the link from where I can download the new vversion of Atlantis Nova.
Probably I wasn't clear enough. I would like to keep Word 2000 as my default word processor and being able to save the files I have written with Word in Word. Is it possible with Atlantis Nova?
I appreciated. Thank you

The Setup file of Atlantis Nova suggests to associate Atlantis Nova with the RTF file extension. You agreed to associate. That is why when you double-click an RTF document, it is opened by Atlantis Nova.
You could uninstall Atlantis Nova. This would restore previous file associations. You could also use the "Tools | Folder Options" dialog of Windows Explorer to associate MS Word with RTF.

Yes, but it would be much simpler to associate MS Word with the desired file extension through the Windows Explorer.

File Associations

If using Windows Explorer (press Windows key as well as E) to find a file or Start Menu then Find Folders and Files... you can highlight a file name or a file type...

Now hold down the SHIFT key while you right-click the mouse.

This opens up the dropdown list/menu and includes the OPEN WITH choice...

Be careful to check that the option to open this filetype with a word processor like WORD or Atlantis is ticked or not for all files of this type eg RTF, DOC, TXT...

You keep the box clear and you can return later to set it if you want to.

Choose the program you want for this time (or all times till you change it again).

If not listed then click OTHER. and search eg Program Files or Downloads, perhaps...

Find the exact application usually called an .exe file. Select it for this occasion. Now the file opens in this application (if you got the right one!)

Another way to associate files is with the old favourite called winfile.exe in C:\WINDOWS\ directory.

You can drag the icon across to the STATUS BASE BAR or to the START menu then drop the SHORTCUT with the little arrow pointer to where the FIND and DOCUMENTS and PROGRAMS are. It's there when you need it eg to check an exact file size... (or right-click file, then Properties... that sometimes helps with picture sizes, too)
