How to make LONG DASH seen as punctuation and not a letter?

Post by Alan »

When spellchecking a document which uses the long dash as punctuation the spellchecker considers the long dash to be part of the word it is next to. This is causing lots of words with a long dash before or after them to be highlighted by the spellchecker when they are common words. Is there a way to set the long dash to be considered as punctuation like commas or quote marks in the spellchecker?
This is happening on Ocean Mind 1.0.5 that I downloaded Monday to try out.

There should be space characters between the long dash and the neighbor words. Otherwise Atlantis assumes that this long dash is a hyphen used for separating the components of a compound word.

You could use the "Tools | AutoCorrect" command to insert spaces before and after long dashes.

I am using the long dash as punctuation in a novel and the accepted usage is for no intervening space between the word and a long dash when used as punctuation. For this reason I will retain a long dash with no space character before or after it. I will continue therefore with spell checking for hundreds of words with long dashes next to them.
