TXT not Rich Text

Post by centurian »

Hi
I've been editing my 'Money Making Reports' in Atlantis and saving them as a txt document then uploading them to Google Drive. But Google likes to change the text file, to other formats that it thinks would be better suited for the software on your desktop. I think Google knows too much about what goes on inside our computers.

For this reason, I started to save my documents in zip files instead, so Google can't change the format, but even this has its problems. Although the zip file works OK, Atlantis is saving the file in 'Rich Text' instead of the 'TXT' format that I edited the file in originally.

I'd like to know how I can save the edited file in the 'TXT' format in zip so when the customer downloads the zip file the document comes to them in the txt format and not 'Rich Text' format so they can open it in 'Notepad'.

I'd be grateful if someone could explain to me how I can get this to work.

Thanks a lot.

Michael.

As I understand, you use the "File | Save Special | Save as Zip..." menu command of Atlantis to save your document as a ZIP file.

This command does not change the format of the active document. If the active document is a plain text file, Atlantis ZIPs the plain text file. Of the active document is a rich text file, Atlantis ZIPs the RTF file.

Before saving your document file as ZIP, please make sure that the active document is a plain text file. You can use the "File | Save As..." menu command of Atlantis to save the active document as a plain text file.

TXT not rich text

Yep, Your right.

I must have missed that step and the article was in the RTF format instead of the txt which I wanted. Just tried it again and it came out just fine.

Only problem now is I can't incorperate a 'Hotlink' on the page as it won't show up in notepad when the customer unzips the WinRar file. I'll leave it as it is for now and see if anyone comments on the way the article is saved.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

.txt files cannot include hyperlinked URLs.
.rtf files can include hyperlinked URLs and can be read in the native MS Wordpad on most Windows systems.
