Atlantis frequently failing to respond. Why?

Post by ironhat »

The title says it all. I am transferring photos and drawings from the net to Atlantis and wasn't having any problems all month long. Now, I can barely do two copy + paste operations and Atlantis stops responding. I have to use Task Manager to get it unstuck. What the heck? I'll do anything - even a virus scan (joke - I already did that).

TIA,
Charles

PS Oh yes, one more thing. Since the onset of this problem Atlantis says that it has found a safe copy of the file and should I use it or return to original. I don't see the safe file. This happens every time I have to restart Atlantis.

Hi Charles,
It would help if you gave us the following details:

1. Which Windows system are you running Atlantis Word Processor on? Is it 32 or 64 bit?
2. Which version of Atlantis do you have (Help | About…)?
3. What is the format of the pictures involved in these “crashes”? “.jpg”, “.jpeg”, “.png”, “.bmp”, “.gif”?
4. How are you doing the copy/paste? With menu commands? Or with drag & drop?
5. Have you recently installed any new program or update on your Windows system?
6. If there aren’t any privacy concerns, could you please direct us to at least one of these Web pictures so that we can try to reproduce the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry that I forgot the basics of problem posting, Robert

OS: Win 7 Atlantis Ver: 1.6.6.0 Bits: ??

I transfer via Rt click ->'Copy Image' -> 'Paste'

Format of pics: Unknown. Rt click produces picture utilities but 'Properties' is not a choice on the list. With Win7 I cannot seem to find individual files - at least it's far more difficult. So, I can't tell you. I copy the pics from tumblr.com so, if you are familiar with the format used there that may help. I'm embarrassed to say that they are pornographic in nature. I'd offer to send you a pic but, I'm not able to find it in Win 7. As I recall, in XP the Atlantis files were saved under 'Docs & Settings' but, that choice is locked out to me! So, that exhausts my ability to ID the format of the pics. If you were to create a 'blog' on tumblr.com (not a big deal), I would direct you to czdc52.tumblr.com for you to harvest a pic to sample. That is, unless you are offended by what is, for the most part, soft to medium core porn. If so, I guess I'm outta luck.

I recently downloaded a couple of programs to sample but have removed them. Other than a few updates, nothing else.

I hope that my lameness isn't too much to overcome. Thanks for the offer. And, if any of this is too offensive, I understand and won't be upset by your refusal to assist.

Hi Charles,
In a standard installation of Atlantis Word Processor, the newly-created documents are saved by default to “C:\Users\<User’s name>\Documents\Atlantis\Documents”:

Image

But of course, you can press the “Browse…” button in the above dialog and choose a different default folder.

And when you save documents, you can always direct Atlantis to a different folder from the default one.

To avoid losing documents because of crashes or abrupt terminations, you might want to activate any or several of the options available in Atlantis. Please have a look at the following Atlantis Forum thread:

Lost all my documents.

Now the pictures at czdc52.tumblr.com seem to be all of the “.gif” type (still, or animated). In any case, if I copy the first 3 pictures, they get pasted into Atlantis without any problem. If there are specific pictures creating problems, you should give us their URL. For this, right-click the picture and choose “Copy Image Location” from the pop-up menu. Paste the Windows clipboard contents into a new post on this forum.

Finally, your pictures might be blocked/locked/corrupted because of a new “safe Web browsing” option on your system. This might come from a Windows Internet option, or a firewall or security application imposing restrictions on your Web browsing. Please make sure this is not the case.
HTH.
