Unusually small type font in dialogs and lists - How to fix?

Post by frank14612 »

I have a less-than-one week old installation of Windows 7 64-bit and a registered copy of Atlantis WP. My problem is that I am getting very small and hard-to-read text in Atlantis pop-up menus. I have posted a screenshot at http://gyazo.com/5b27cfe442b31025c3d0cc3c3258d5db showing one example of the text in the spelling pop-up.

Is there any way to make the text larger? Thank you.

Is the text the same size as the words under the icons on the background screen? I suspect this is a system setting and you will need to change the screen resolution font size.

Dale,
No, it has no relationship to the size of the fonts on the Desktop or in Windows Explorer, which are all set to the default font, Segoeui.ttf, 9 point. As you can see from the screenshot, the font is definitely not Segoe, since the Windows Segoe font is sans-serif, while the font in the Atlantis pop-up is serif. So there's more afoot than just setting the size of the Windows font.

The answer may lie in where Atlantis gets its dialog box/pop-up menu font/font size from.

Are the Microsoft Sans Serif (micross.ttf), Tahoma (tahoma.ttf) and Segoe UI (segoeui.ttf) fonts available on your system? The context menus often rely on these fonts being present in Windows. When they are not present, font substitution occurs and usually gives poor results.

Yes, I checked, and found all those fonts installed.

Just to illustrate that my Windows Desktop font is normal, I took this screenshot: http://gyazo.com/37fba0f0ad7c256dd928583489ed121f.

I haven't seen this particular issue addressed anywhere on the Web. If it is brought up in the usual form, "How do I adjust my Windows font and size?" it is answered with the routine, "Click on the Desktop > Personalize > Window color > Item, and then choose your preferred font and size." My settings, where a font and size are applicable, are all set to Segoe UI, 9 point.

If that screenshot in my previous post doesn't show up, I've posted it as a file here.

You seem to have MS Word installed on your system. How does the MS Word right-click menu look like? The context menu in Wordpad?

The right-click "spellcheck" context menu in Atlantis is supposed to display with the "Arial" font. But according to your screen capture, this menu displays with a different font in your system.

Do you have "Arial" in your system? Can you format document text with "Arial"?

Solved!

Genius! :D

Reinstalling the Arial font solved the problem.

I couldn't have figured it out myself without knowing that there was a missing font and what the missing font was.

Thank you!!!

Frank D

P.S. Curious why neither MS Word nor Wordpad had the problem.
