format multi-paragrs as a block, say, add a space before

Post by Leopoldus »

Is there any way to apply a format template to several selected paragraphs as to a single block? Say, I have selected 10 paragraphs and I need to add a space 48 pt before the first of them and/or space 24 pt after the last of them. But the space between this 10 paragraphs (inside the selected block) should be 6 pt before and 0 pt after each of them (besides the first and the last).

Once more, I do not speak of adding space before or/and after each of paragraphs inside the block, what is actually quite simple task. I need adding larger spaces only before the first and after the last of them.

May my, some options for Style, Format brush or something else?

Thanks!

Hi,
There is no magical way.

You can do it through direct formatting if in turn you select the first, then the last paragraph, and finally the middle block of paragraphs. And apply the desired formatting in these 3 steps.

You can also do it through styles. This will be most helpful if the requirement is recurrent. You need to create 3 specific styles, one for the first paragraph, one for the last, and one for the middle block of paragraphs.

Note that you can create these styles quickly if you already have such a sequence of paragraphs formatted in the way you want. Here is how to proceed:
1. Place the insertion cursor within the first paragraph.
2. Press “Ctrl+Shift+S”.
3. Type any appropriate name for the style that you want to create, and press “Enter”.
4. Atlantis will ask if you want to add that style to the document style sheet. Answer “Yes”.
5. Place the insertion cursor within one of the middle paragraphs.
6. Repeat steps 2 through 4.
7. Place the insertion cursor within the last paragraph.
8. Repeat steps 2 through 4.

You can then apply these styles to any appropriate paragraphs.

HTH.
Cheers,
Robert
