Favourites

Post by Cheemag »

Atlantis' open file dialogue always opens in My Documents, where I don't keep my documents.

My Documents isn't in the list of folders at the bottom of the dialogue window ! Can I get it to open in another directory? (Sort of like Favourite Files, but without specifying a file).

It needs to open in \\Bb\Bbz\Docs

Hi,
First note that files can always be opened with drag & drop from Windows Explorer or any other file manager. Or with a double-click if you have associated Atlantis with such file types as the RTF, DOC, DOCX, COD formats.

Now from Atlantis.

1. As Luha just indicated, you can change the value of “Use Document Folder” on the “Load/Save” tab in the Atlantis global options (Tools | Options…) The “Ctrl+O” dialog will then default to that new folder.

2. You can always reopen recently-opened documents from the drop-down attached to the “Open Document” toolbar button.

3. At the bottom of this same “Open Document” dialog (Ctrl+O), you'll find a "Folders" history. If you select “Edit History List…” from the associated drop-down, you open the “Edit Folder History List”. You can then add/remove folders from that list. In your case, you could add “Bb\Bbz\Docs”. You could also toggle on the “Locked” option if you want Atlantis to stop automatically adding folder names to that list.

Note that the total number of files or folders that Atlantis will add automatically to these histories is controlled by the value of “Number of items in the histories” which you’ll find in the “Tools | Options…” dialog.

4. You can always change the “Favorites folder” as specified in the “Organize Favorites” dialog (“Files | Favorites | Organize Favorites…”) Use the associated “Browse…” button. In your case, you could change it to “\\Bb\Bbz\Docs”. When this is done, you could add links to any documents on your hard disk in your Atlantis “Favorites folder”. These documents could then be opened directly from the list of your “Atlantis Favorites” as available at the bottom of the “Files | Favorites” sub-menu.

Note that Atlantis will only recognize links to files as your “favorites”. If you already have documents in “\\Bb\Bbz\Docs”, they will be referenced in the list of your “Atlantis Favorites” only if you also create links to the real files within this same folder.

So, it might be simpler to keep the default “Favorites folder” as set during the original install of Atlantis, and create links in it to all your working documents from “\\Bb\Bbz\Docs”. Adding links to documents to your Atlantis “Favorites folder” can be done in 2 ways:

-You can add any document open in the Atlantis workspace to your “Atlantis Favorites” with the “File | Favorites > Add to Favorites” main menu command.
-You can also use Windows Explorer directly, and drag & drop (right mouse button) to create any relevant link in the “Atlantis Favorites” folder.

5. If you regularly work on the same set or sets of documents, you could create corresponding “Document Projects” in Atlantis. Atlantis automatically opens all associated documents whenever you open a “Document Project”. Please read the following help topic for details on the Atlantis “Document Projects”:

Atlantis Document Projects

HTH.

Fine. Thanks. Luha's suggestion is all that it needs in my case. The rest is fine but over-complicated for my situation.

Thanks again.

If you uncheck the "Tools | Options... > Load / Save > Use Document Folder" option, Atlantis would remember your "last used" folder, and automatically suggest it next time you choose the "File | Open..." or "File | Save As..." command.
