instead of using H1, H2, etc. as indicators for chapter breaks, is it possible to have an option to override this automated process and manually insert chapter marks? it's not necessarily true that something with the header style is the beginning of a new chapter.
what i'd like to be able to do is select some text, right click, access the contextual menu, and select "set as chapter mark in ebook" or something to that effect. and i'd like to be able to assign a level to the chapter mark as well.
the level marker would be used if you have a book divided into sections, and each section would have its own chapters. the level marker would be a number in relation to the previous chapter mark's level marker. the first chapter mark will always have a level marker of 0.
for example:
cover page: 0
title page: 0
table of contents: 0
book 1: 0
chapter 1: +1
chapter 2: 0
chapter 3: 0
chapter 4: 0
chapter 5: 0
book 2: -1
chapter 1: +1
chapter 2: 0
etc.
etc.
from "cover page" to "book 1" the levels are the same (0). "chapter 1" has a level of +1 (or you can think of it as +1 unit of indention) because it is a sub-section of the previous chapter marker, "book 1". "chapter 2" has a level of 0 because it is at the same (indent) level as the previous level marker, "chapter 1". moving on to "book 2", the level is at -1. this means that relative to the previous level marker at "chapter 5", its indention level is 1 less, bringing it back out to the same level as "book 1".
do you think any of this is possible?
hue.
ePub: manually insert chapter marks
Sorry, but there are no "chapter marks" in RTF, DOC, or DOCX documents. Atlantis could not store any non-standard formatting within document files of these formats.
The main purpose of Heading styles is exactly to divide a document into chapters. There are 9 levels of Heading styles. Sorry, but there is no point in inventing new features when you can achieve the goal through the existing standard tools. You say that "it's not necessarily true that something with the header style is the beginning of a new chapter". But why you cannot mark the beginnings of chapters with the Heading styles? Simply do not associate "other paragraphs" with the Heading styles, and you would not need new features.
Sorry, but there is really no sense in introducing a new non-standard formatting to mark chapter beginning. If Heading styles play a different role in your document, you can always associate your "non-chapter-beginning" paragraphs with other styles. If you have difficulties with reformatting your document, please attach it to your post, or email to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com. We would help with its formatting.
