End Notes

Post by jackhumphres »

When I place a heading H1 for my end notes then the notes appear on the next page (when it is saved as epub and opened in adobde digital editions), not on the same page as the heading. I do not have the syle for h1 set to do a page break. Is this a problem with Atlantis or adobe digital editions?

If you are familiar with the structure of EPUB files, their content (text) can be split into multiple XHTML files. eBook readers (ADE, Sony Reader, etc) display a page break between two consecutive XHTML files. You get a page break before notes in ADE because Atlantis saves all the footnotes and endnotes of your document to the EPUB package as a separate XHTML file. In HTML, it is impossible to have notes attached to a specific page because there are no pages in HTMLs. EPUB is a reflowable format. Any eReader can paginate an EPUB in any way it wants. This is why Atlantis puts all the notes to a separate XHTML file. But you can always get back to a note reference in the main text by clicking a note reference number in the note body.
