.ini files become corrupt?

Post by DoctorRob »

I recently initialised Atlantis to find only the first three menu items, <File>, <Edit> and <View> available on my screen. Since <Tools><Menu> was unavailable I was unable to reset the menus to default.

I saved the Atlantis directory as it was before restoring from backup. I've edited hotkeys and menus quite a lot, and have noticed in the past after extensive changes that Atlantis crashes, or menus become corrupt, as on this occasion. Any thoughts, programmers?

Could you please email your INI file to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com?

Corrupt menus can be easily removed from the INI file. Just open the INI file in any plain text editor, then remove the following section:

[\Software\Rising Sun Solutions, Inc.\Atlantis.1_x\Internal\Menus\MainMenu]

and save changes to the INI file.

Please also update your copy of Atlantis if it is not up-to-date.

Thank you for the programming tip. My current version is 1.6.4.3, and the file is on its way to you.

Thanks for the files. I have just loaded your INI files to my Atlantis. The menus are OK.

But according to your INI files, your version of Atlantis is 1.6.1.9. Do you use them in Atlantis in "read-only" mode? In other words, does your Atlantis save its settings to the INI file on close?

Do you have multiple different versions of Atlantis on your PC?

At the time my menus became corrupt, I'm certain I was running Atlantis 1.6.4.3, though I may have been running a much earlier version when I started modifying Atlantis hotkeys and menus. These modifications normally last from session to session; I couldn't achieve such modifications if they didn't.

Your INI file says that it was last modified by Atlantis 1.6.1.9. When I load it in Atlantis 1.6.4.3, I get the following window:

If you do not get this window, your Atlantis is not up-to-date.

Running different versions of Atlantis on the same PC concurrently will lead to various conflicts. By the way, if you need to downgrade your copy of Atlantis, the safest way to do so is to make a fresh install of Atlantis (uninstall a newer version of Atlantis, then install an older version).

I cannot reproduce incomplete menus in Atlantis 1.6.4.3 under your INI files. Again, are you sure that you load the INI files to the latest version of Atlantis? If you cannot access the "Help | About..." dialog of Atlantis, you can still obtain the version number of the executable file of Atlantis (C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe). Just right-click this file in Windows Explorer, and choose the "Properties" command.

If you still believe that you have the latest version of Atlantis, please email the executable file of Atlantis ("C:\Program Files\Atlantis\Atlantis.exe") to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com (please ZIP before attaching).

In any case, running the latest setup file of Atlantis on your PC would not harm. Please download the latest setup file of Atlantis from the Downloads page, and run it. This would upgrade your copy of Atlantis if it is not up-to-date.

I can't reproduce the accident either, admin. By restoring backup in response to the accident I placed 1.6.4.2 back on my machine, but believe I have been running the latest version (I commented on my experiments with the sentence length tool to this forum), and have just reinstalled it. Therefore I can't be confident of sending you a suspect Atlantis.exe file and suspect .ini file. In other words, I can't prove either that I have a problem or that Atlantis is to blame!

Let's shelve this unless the problem recurs. Good luck with 1.6.5.
