Restore text format

Post by Frank Kolwicz »

I have some files that contain data that was originally columnized, but not with "Columns", just spaced so that subsequent lines had entries under each header - like a spreadsheet.

Is there any easy way to return that text formatting to give columns? The text is a list of parts along with their specifications: top row headers, left column parts, data fills in the rows/columns. Page size is not a criterion.

If your document has only 1 page, please do the following:

1) Press down the Alt key, select the first column in your document with the mouse as a column block, then release the Alt key.

2) Press Ctrl+C to place the selected column block onto the clipboard.

3) Create a new document in Atlantis (press Ctrl+N), and format it with "2 columns" (use the "Format | Columns..." menu command).

4) Press Ctrl+V to paste the clipboard contents to the new document.

5) Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter or choose the "Insert | Break | Column Break" menu command to insert a column break.

6) Switch back to the original document (use the Document Bar of Atlantis).

7) Press down the Alt key, select the second column with the mouse as a column block, then release the Alt key.

8) Switch to the new document, and press Ctrl+V to paste the clipboard contents after the column break.

Thanks for the prompt reply, as always - way to go Atlantis.

However, you seem to be assuming that I only have 2 columns, in fact, I have 8. Will that process work for that many columns?

Yes, if you can follow the abose steps to convert a 2-column document, converting an 8-column document would not be also a problem.
