New Atlantis user, decimal tab question

Post by StormyPeak »

I down loaded a 'light version' of Atlantis Novis (version 1.0.0.69), and I see there is an updated full version for $35.00. But before I go ahead and buy it I would like to know about the tab feature.

Here's my situation.

I have a carpet inventory list that last year I just had to transfer from an old DOS word processing program called Q&A over to a new word processing program.

I tried one called Jarte but wasn't happy with it. So now I'm trying this Atlantis program and so far I'm much happier with this trial version over that Jarte program I had.

My problem though, is with the tabs.

The Jarte program had only pre-set tabs...no decimal tabs whatsoever. The other thing that drove me nuts was that the text from one line to the next didn't line up nor did my numbers after a decimal point and I got a wavey column all the way down the page.

Atlantis seems to be lining the text up a lot nicer. : )

The tabs is where I'm having problems. At Least with Atlantis I Have decimal tabs...but I'm having a problem of my decimal tab setting only applying to one line...not the whole document.

I have copied my text over...but I can't seem to make the decimal tabs continue from line to line. I have over 300 lines of carpet names to list with their prices off to the right ..and I sure would hate to have to manualy put in a decimal tab for each line.

I just want a simple list and I don't care if the other stuff lines up...just those prices at the far right line up

Here's an example of how my lines are set up, showing inventory number, style name color name linear feet and in brackets square yards and finally the price....which I would love to place a decimal tab. Of course, on my page things are spread out a bit more...and my prices on the right are lined up correctly....hard to do that with these forum text-boxes.

R345 Caliope beachwood 12 x 45 [60] 12.60 R345
R346 Socialite copper 12 x 8 [10.67] 7.95 R346

Is there any way of copying text from one document to the next and setting one tab where the custom tabs are set and not have to do it with each line?

I tried to make a custom template with the decimal tab where I wanted it on the page and when typing in new text it works.
.....but when copying over text from another document I lose my decimal tab setting with each line and have to put it in manually

I hope I explained that where it made sense and someone can tell me how to copy text from an existing document and set a decimal tab just the one time and not have to do it for each line on my list. Or...if this is happening because I have an older version and would a new/full version of Atlantis make document editing with decimals for the whole page work...or will I still have to just keep doing it for each line.

Thanks,

Tab stop positions and formatting are a property (characteristic) of a paragraph. Each paragraph in RTFs and DOCs can have its own tab stop positions and formatting. If you want to apply some tab formatting to the whole document, please press Ctrl+A to select the whole document, then add tab stop positions either through the Atlantis ruler or the "Format | Tabs…" menu command of Atlantis.

Hi,
Atlantis Nova is the freeware "bare-bones" version of Atlantis Word Processor. If you are looking for a fully-fledged word processor, you should go for Atlantis Word Processor. Atlantis Word Processor has a lot more features and practicality. You don't have to pay any registration fee straightaway. Atlantis Word Processor is a "try-before-you-buy" software. You have 30 days starting from the installation day to try it and make up your mind. When the trial period has expired, you can buy a license if you are happy with it. If not, simply, uninstall Atlantis from your system.

Now about your "tab" problem.
First, each of your inventory lines must end with a paragraph end mark. Use the Ctrl+H dialogue to replace all line breaks (if any) with paragraph end marks.
Second, your lines must have tab characters at the appropriate places. In your example, each line must have a tab character before the following items:

style name
color name
linear feet
price
inventory number (second instance, end-of-line)

When you have these tab characters in place, select all the inventory lines, then click along the horizontal ruler to create custom tab positions. Always click to place the tab stops so that they will leave room for the longest item in the "column". For example, if you have "beachwood", "silver" and "copper" in one column, the tab stop for the three inventory lines should be placed to accommodate "beachwood", not "silver" or "copper".

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Robert

Hi,

Thanks SO MUCH for the information.

I probably will be buying the full version soon. I've only had this bare-bones version downloaded for about 4 days and I'm impressed with it.

My list is just a simple thing....and a lot of people suggested I just put my inventory on a spreadsheet...but for me to just go in and not have to work around fields....and just freely move about my document and type in and add notes about if a carpet was damaged or not is just easier.

I do appreciate your help. I have been going in and reading other people's questions and trying to learn from that.

I might have a few more questions as I go, but so far the program has been pretty user friendly.
