Farewell to Atlantis 0.7

Post by Prince »

I have just seen that there is no more link to the download of this program.

Let's say farewell to this program which was so easy to handle that you could give it to an old lady.

Given that 0.7 was such an excellent light wordprocessor, what features does Nova have over 0.7? I've never bothered to check out Nova, as I bought Ocean Mind on the day it was released.

You could check this yourself. Just install Atlantis Nova too. You can install both Nova and Ocean Mind versions to the same computer.

Seems they are the trendy in the US. Perhaps somebody like Sixshadows or Scovav could say something on the chances of a cute word processor for them.

I just gave my old pc (486, 66 Mhz) to a young girl, equipped with Atlantis 0.7 as she is not speaking english. And this program is easy enough that her mother can use it too. ;D

Now I have a pretty pc (486,100 Mhz, 2GB Harddrive). :) Of course Atlantis 1.0 OM is just installed. But when will it be available in German?

>But when will it be available in German?

Hard to say definitely. The localization of Atlantis is a very complex task because EVERYTHING is localized: from menus and document templates to the Help and hot keys.

The localization is even more complex because new features are constantly added to Atlantis. A real head-ache for developers and translators...

I said that Atlantis 1.0 OM is just installed. But it does not work. Well, I have a problem with the driver for the graphics card I have to solve.

But after the message that Atlantis causes a conflict with Kernel I-do-not-know I installed Nova and opened it without any trouble.

Atlantis Ocean Mind contains much more features in comparing to Atlantis Nova. AOM might require services that are not used by Atlantis Nova.

I guess that there is a relation between e. g. it's function as a handy convertor and the setting on 16 colours only. What brings me back to my graphics card (WEITEK 9100). I will surf for a driver for it or change to another card.

AOM has a lot of features you do not want to miss if you are used to it even for a short time. I wouldn't like it to work without the page preview and cod-files. (This I call: the husband's best friend!) ;D

Of course, it wasn't the graphics card. After installing the driver and starting the pc again the monitor stayed dark.

Now I installed a SVGA-card with 256 colours, dropped one hard drive which obviously damaged (the other one is a noisy little thing) and realised that the PC has only one com-port - either for the mouse or for the modem. And no Ocean Mind at all - conflict with kernel ...

Let me say that I was very happy to see the splash screen of Nova. I love this splash screen - it is artistic, beautiful and the first sign that something is working on this PC!

And here my newest Update: AOM works (or as another technician said in a similar situation: "Es lebt, Meister, es lebt!" Poor Igor!) but not very reliable. I need 3 times to get it started and one time it is broken down.

With Nova I had some trouble with the toolbars. The haven't been visible for half the time. 0.7 worked of course without any problem.

Atlantis 1.x uses COMCTL32.DLL that as a rule is installed/updated by MS Internet Explorer. Does your IE work properly?

That is a point I have to investigate. As I prefer Nestcape Communicator 4.7 I have not tested the IE. Are there differences between the versions of the IE?

Internet Explorer is now a standard and very important component of Windows.
It is not so easy (in Windows 98 and higher - impossible) to remove IE from Windows. Misconfigured IE might be a reason of many unpleasant things.

Indeed that was the solution. Now it works without any problems. Did you find out on the differences of the three versions?

A tricky question. I can say a single thing: if you have a properly installed/configured MS IE 4.0 (or higher), most applications will work properly too.
