Autocorrect.

Post by lynneconnolly »

I write novels for a living. Sometimes they're in US English, other times UK English, depending on the publisher.
Since I'm British, I write in UK English. When I'm expected to do the US thing, I use autocorrect to fix the spelling, eg "colour" to "color." Unfortunately, when I do that the correction appears in both the UK English and the US English autocorrect list, which means even my UK English is "corrected" to US English.
Is there a way to fix this?

Sorry, but there is no separate US English or UK English AutoCorrect list in Atlantis. There is one English list.

You can run the "Tools | Spellcheck..." command.

autocorrect

Okay, thanks. I think I might have a workaround for it. I'll see if it works.

Success!

It works!
I downloaded a language I never use (Irish!), and then added a US dictionary to it as a customised word list. That took care of spellcheck. Then I had a fresh autocorrect that I could use for my word list!
It sounds a bit convoluted, but anyone working with different versions of English might use this workaround.
The other way is to use a different copy of Atlantis (portable) with a different autocorrect list.
