I wonder if this is the reason my colors don't look as bold

Post by 357mag »

I've noticed that when I am looking at my document on screen as I compose it the colored fonts look great. But when I print the colors look a little more pale. They don't look as deep and saturated as they look on screen.

Now I find out about this thing called XPS driver.

I don't think I've ever installed an XPS driver. Mostly the MP drivers for my Canon printer.

My question is should I be installing this XPS?

Or won't it make any difference in Atlantis?

The colors on your monitor screen are managed by your graphic card and associated drivers, not by Atlantis.
Same thing about the colors on the printed pages. This is managed by your printer drivers.
You could try updating your Canon drivers if at all possible, and maybe adjust the printer color settings.

Now the “Canon XPS driver” supports 16 bpc, i.e. 16 bits per channel. Here is from I'm confused about drivers:
XPS printer drivers support 16-bpc printing, which enables more smooth gradation printing than the current drivers (8-bpc printing).
However, it seems that you’d need a compatible Canon printer. Apparently, this is a driver for the latest Canon IJ multifunction printers.

You might want to take a look at What Is a Canon XPS Printer Driver?

Note that on my Windows 10 system I can “print” any document from Atlantis using “Microsoft XPS Document Writer” as a “virtual” printer. This is actually creating an OpenXPS file with “.oxps” extension which can be viewed on screen with the dedicated utility but cannot be printed on paper…

HTH.

My printer is a Canon. MX882. I'm currently using what is called MP drivers.

I just tried installing the XPS driver on Windows 8.1 and the dialog box told me I have to have the MP drivers installed first.

Why I don't get. Why you need an MP driver if XPS is made to give you better printing in the first place.

Here is from I'm confused about drivers:
The optional XPS driver can be installed after the Mini Master Setup or MP Drivers are installed if you wished to use the printer with a program that supports an XPS printer.
That forum reply was posted by a Canon official representative.

I just printed a few lines using blue with an XPS driver. No difference really. The printed color isn't as bold as it looks in Atlantis.

The way it goes I guess.

In Atlantis, you get the colors of your screen monitor. Such colors are usually brighter than printed colors. Screens are lit up electronically. The paper you print on is “dead”, electronically-speaking. What’s more, there are different types of paper. Some paper sheets are meant to print color pictures or photos. They might fit your purpose better.
