tabbing within tables/cells

Post by joeche »

within a cell in a table, i'd like to be able to separate some text for readability.

if i hit 'tab' it goes to the next cell; if i hit 'ctrl-tab' or 'shift-tab' it does nothing.

i can work around this by splitting the cell, but don't want to do that.

the ruler lets me enter new tab-stops within a cell, but how do i tab to that tab-stop?

thanks

If you have several documents open, “Ctrl+Tab” will activate the next window.
As you have found out, hitting “Tab” in a table takes you to the next cell, not to the next tab stop.

As a workaround, you can use the drop down attached to the “Insert symbol” toolbar button, and choose to insert a “Tab” character.
Alternatively, you can assign a hot key to “Insert tab” (“Insert” category). You could use “F4” for example, if it’s not used otherwise.

HTH.
