Stop a Long Search

I write books and sometimes do a search on something only to discover it's going to search the entire book and find hundreds of hits. How can I stop the search which can last 5-6 minutes?

Hi Franklin,
The Escape key will get you out of most trouble, including a lengthy search operation.
