Hello,
I'm just testing the new version of Atlantis and have the following problem (on Windows 7):
I assigned rtf and docx-files to be opened by Atlantis as standard. Now, when I open a docx-file (or rtf) from inside a zip- or rar-archive (with double click) and edit it, and try to save the changes afterwards, Atlantis does'nt save it back into the archive, but offers it's installation folder instead, to save the edited file.
Is this normal (well, probably not since all other editors I tried do it), or did I miss a switch or something, to tell Atlantis it should save back to the zip archive?
many thanks in advance & best regards
Achim
Saving back into zip (rar) archives
Hi Robert,
many thanks. Yes, this is true if you use the "Save"-Button in Word.
But if you close the Word (2007) window with "x", you will be asked, if the changes should be saved. When you say yes, it will save back into the archive (though I'm not sure if this done by Word or by the Packer).
Not a very clean method, I know, but rather convenient.
best regards
Achim

On my x64 Windows 10 system, I am asked if I want to save the changes made to the document whichever way I choose to close a document included in an archive, or Word (2007) itself. If I answer "yes" at that point, and try to save the document under the same name, I systematically get a warning that the document cannot be saved because it was opened as READ-ONLY. If I choose to save this same document under a different name, it is actually saved, but not back into the original archive. It is saved into a new ZIP archive in "C:\Users\<USER'S NAME>\AppData\Local\Temp". Such temp files are normally deleted after each Windows session. I would not call this convenient!
It will always be safer and more practical to extract the document(s) from the archive before editing them.
Cheers,
Robert

When Atlantis is associated with RTF files, and you double-click a RTF file within an archive, that RTF document automatically opens in Atlantis as READ-ONLY. As such it cannot be edited and saved normally.
But you could use the following workaround to save a changed document back into its original archive:
1. In Atlantis, edit the read-only document as if it were a normal "read-write" document.
2. When you are finished editing, press F12 to save the file as a normal "read-write" document.
3. Atlantis will offer to save it to its document folder by default ("C:\Users\<USER'S NAME>\Documents\Atlantis\Documents"). Save the modified document under its (same) original name.
4. In Atlantis, press Ctrl+W to close the newly-saved document.
5. Use your file manager and drag & drop to copy or move the newly-saved document back into its original archive.
6. When asked, choose to overwrite the older document.
HTH.
