Sorry for this very narrow question, but in hopes there might be an easy answer, I'll ask it anyway.
I use TotalCommander/FreeCommander to browse my file directory, and I like to use the "QuickView" panel to have the program show me a preview of the file as I browse through them and before I open it.
I've noticed that when I associate files with Atlantis, and have the file selected with preview on, and I then double click to open the file in Atlantis, I get an error screen that says "File "XXX" does not seem to be a valid text document in any of the formats supported by Atlantis. Would you still like to open it in Atlantis as a plain text document." If I answer yes I get some jumbled code and that's it.
I have tested this over and over, and the same document opens fine if the preview panel is not open. Also, the fact that the preview is open does not seem to hinder MSWord 2003, or WPSWriter, or Textmaker 2012 from opening the same file, in the same way, without any problem.
I presume that what must be happening is that the Quickview panel in TotalCommander / FreeCommander must somehow have the file marked without really being "open", and that Atlantis must detect this while MSWord, Total/FreeCommander, and Textmaker don't care. Perhaps there is some startup option or other file opening option I can change that would allow me to do what I am looking to do here (?)
If not, no problem, I can always close the preview before opening the file, but this glitch troubled me for a while before I figured out that I could get past it by closing the preview window, and if there is some kind of non-standard file opening going on, I thought it might help if I reported it.
Thanks again for the fine program

I personally use xplorer² as a file manager. Files opened through double-clicks or drag & drop open normally in Atlantis, even when they are being previewed in xplorer².
So this must be specific to TotalCommander/FreeCommander.
Maybe the Atlantis developers will find a workaround suited for TotalCommander/FreeCommander.

Thank you for the responses!
1 - Sorry for my shorthand on the "XXX" - I just meant that the three XXX's stand for the full pathname of the file I am trying to open, which appear accurately in the error message.
2 - Here is an example of what appears:
As before, let me say please don't expend any significant effort on this for me -- I could easily have something odd with my configuration. But in reporting what appears to be an unusual result - and different from the other word processors - I thought it might be worthwhile for you guys to know.

When you get such a message (File "XXX”), what is the extension of the file? Is it “.rtf”, “.doc”, “.docx”, “.txt”, or something else? If it is any of these extensions, could you please post a sample document here on the forum, or send it to support@AtlantisWordProcessor.com?

The next release of Atlantis will be able to open DOC files opened by the previewer of Free Commander. But viewers should not keep files open permanently because other applications could not perform some actions on viewed files (for example, the DeleteFile() function of Windows fails on a file opened in the read-only mode).
