In Microsoft Word, when a global search-and-replace completes you are returned to editing the document at the point you were when you invoked search and replace, regardless of the outcome of the search and replace activity.
In Atlantis, when the search/replace activity is finished, you are returned to the top of the document and you've lost your 'place'.
Is it possible to do a global search-and-replace without 'losing your place' in the document?

Search and Replace - returning to last edit position
Hi Smudger,
You are not automatically returned to where you were before you invoked search and replace, but if you want to go back to some point in the document after a search/replace, you can add a bookmark at that point (“Shift+Alt+B”) before invoking search and replace. You can then go back to that bookmark after the search and replace operation is completed.
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

Re: Search and Replace - returning to last edit position
What I do is make some minor change to the document at the place to which I want to return (such as adding a space), then do the search&replace, and then hit F5, which returns me to the place I made the change.smudger wrote:In Microsoft Word, when a global search-and-replace completes you are returned to editing the document at the point you were when you invoked search and replace, regardless of the outcome of the search and replace activity.

Hi Frank,
The F5 method is valid if you do a simple search operation. But it won’t work if you do a search/replace operation. Simply because F5 takes you to the last editing change you made, and will invariably take you back to the last editing change made by the replace operation. This might very well not be where you initially wanted to return.
To go back to a place of interest, you can associate it with a bookmark, or any kind of formatting that is not used anywhere else in the document, or insert a special name or code that you can search for with the Ctrl+F dialog.

There aren’t variations. It simply cannot be avoided. I just tested this. I inserted a space character near the end of a document where I wanted to go back to. Then I replaced a string with another string throughout the whole document using the Ctrl+H dialog. The last replacement that Atlantis made was located somewhere near the middle of the document. I pressed “Ctrl+Home” to get to the top of the document. Finally, I pressed F5. I was taken to where the last replacement had occurred, somewhere near the middle of the document. I could never return to my intended destination with F5.

This has been implemented in the latest build of Atlantis Word Processor 1.6.6 (beta). Now when search is complete, Atlantis automatically returns the cursor to the document location where you started the search.smudger wrote:Is it possible to do a global search-and-replace without 'losing your place' in the document?
If you are using Atlantis Word Processor 1.6.6 (beta), you can update it through the "Help | Check for Updates..." menu command.
