horizontal line

Post by DaleDe »

I would like to be able to insert a horizontal line. (This is a supported ePub and html feature). I would like to be able to vary the length of the line. It could be placed on the insert menu.

Hi Dale,
I personally use the attached file which I have placed as an Atlantis Clip Library item.
I double-click on this "Horizontal Line" item in the Clip Library whenever I want to insert a horizontal line.
You’ll change the length of the line if you move the associated tab stop with the mouse along the horizontal ruler.
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

Thanks, nice workaround for this feature. It does not seem to translate to ePub. I was hoping for <hr> support. This seems to be a tab leader. It would work fine if it was translated to ePub.

Here is another workaround.
The line in attached “horizontal_line.docx” was created by inserting the “Line 5” picture from the “Images” folder in the Atlantis Clip Library. I then resized the picture to make it shorter and thinner.

This kind of “line” is saved to ePub (see attached “horizontal_line.epub”).

Hi Robert,

In a discussion area, I would be looking for a solution to a problem and I would really appreciate the solutions you proposed. However, this is a wish list or feature request, not a solution to fix something in a current eBook. I really do appreciate your solutions (workarounds) and have learned from them but I am asking for, what I believe, is a feature in the product to avoid having to work around with images. Almost any feature you care to name could be accomplished in one way or another by substituting a picture.

As I understand things, the lines you are referring to are drawn by adding borders to the target paragraphs. Support for borders is tantamount to support for tables. So until Atlantis has support for tables, you’ll have to use workarounds…
Sorry I could not be more helpful. :(

Thanks I didn't realize that hr used a border property. Actually I would be happy with your first solution if implemented in a way that ePub would show it. I would think that it would be fairly easy to add a command that said it was drawing a horizontal line but implement it by using the tab leader code and then recognizing this as a special case to be translated to an <hr> in the ePub. I do really like the leader trick.

By the way, the HTML save does implement some sort of line out of the leader trick although I am not sure what it does.

Inserting a line that is viewable in EPUBs

Post by Euan Mitchell »

Hi Atlantis,
I would like to second Dale's request for a new feature that allows the insertion of a coloured line that will also appear when converted to an EPUB. It's something I use all the time in Word for adding a professional touch to my ebooks.
