Exception errors Beta 1. 6.5.12.beta b0

Post by eboepple »

Using Beta 1. 6.5.12.beta b0

System extremely slow; takes forever to open or save a file (.docx).

Suddenly file starting spawning dozens of "exception" and "memory" error windows and when I closed the error windows, the file closed; it DISAPPEARED... not in my folder! GONE! I'm in a panic. Rebuilding will take me WEEKS!

Anybody know what's going on and where I might be able to find the file?

(Because the saves were taking so long, and I got a message saying I had exceeded backup space, I turned them off... but in the backup folder I show only ONE file from a few days ago... I have no idea what happened to all the backups from before I turned them off)

Atlantis never deletes document files located outside its "Backup" folder. If your document is not "newly created", its file should be present somewhere in your system. Please use the Windows Search tool to find your document file.

Please also choose the "File | Recent Documents | View Backups..." menu command of Atlantis. Most probably you will find there multiple versions of your document file.

Disabling the "Backup files" feature is not a good idea if you have to work on important documents. But if the "Backup" folder of Atlantis is "overcrowded", this might affect the overall performance of Atlantis. Please click the "Tools | Options... > Load / Save > Backup Files..." button in Atlantis. How much disk space is currently used by your backups? Does the "Maximum number of backup file for a document" box say "Max"? Please click the "Delete Backup Files..." button, and choose documents whose backup files you want to delete.

using search file is NOT on my computer!

Post by eboepple »

I'm sorry, but I have used the search and the file is not on my computer. The file name is on the "recent" list for the computer, but clicking on the name says that the file is not longer available. Also, the file name is NOT on the Atlantis recent files list. It is definitely not in the folder where it was. It's as if the file never existed. I am not dreaming. I have witnesses who saw me working on that file for a week!

Hi,
Have you looked at your Windows Recycle Bin?

If you cannot find your file in there, you might have more luck running this utility:

Puran File Recovery

It is a freeware application and does a very good job of recovering deleted files. Of course, the sooner you run it after deletion, the better chances you stand…

HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

As I said, Atlantis never deletes document files.

Do you mean that you chose the "File | Recent Documents | View Backups..." command, and there was no backup copy of your document? If so, the Backup Files feature is disabled in your Atlantis.
