switch focus betw main window to Control Board with keyboard

Post by Leopoldus »

Is there any opton to move a focus between a document's main window and Control Board panel from keyboard? I've found the option to do it only with mouse, what is far nor convenient.

Sorry, but you cannot switch to the Control Board with the keyboard.

That's inconvenient. Sometimes when using Atlantis word processor the mouse is not in the way, so it is not possible use Control Board at all. You can open the Control Board pane with keyboard hotkey F6, but you can not use move there to select any command... It's a bit pointless, isn't it?

Well, is there at least any way to close Control Board from keyboard, when the focus is inside Control Board itself? Seems, that hotkey F6 does not work in this situation. Or it's a simple bug of last versions?

The Control Board cannot be used without mouse. There is no point in having a hot key that would switch the focus to the Control Board because you still need mouse to click the buttons at the bottom of the Control Board panels.

This hot key is supposed to work when the focus is inside the Control Board. Any info on how to reproduce the glitch?

It is correct in certain... well, in the most cases, but not always. Say, a user does not need a mouse to follow this Robert's advice in order to remove extra bookmarks: http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en ... php?p=7623 (this is the operation I have to do with almost any document, as there is no simpler way to get rid from useless bookmarks).

Answer is above: try to do exactly as Robert has advised (providing, that in Control Board is already pre-selected Bookmarks section from the previous time). Use mouse only one time in order to move focus to Control Board. After all bookmarks are deleted, press F6. Control Board will not close. It is not a random glitch, I've seen it many times for many months.

Hi,
When we remove all bookmarks from a document, it seems that the focus remains within the “Bookmarks” panel of the Control Board, but is lost to Atlantis. In such cases, you need to restore the focus to some other part of the Atlantis GUI: you can click in the document window, or display a different Control Board panel, then press “F6”.

Alternatively, you could use the main menu toggle command itself: “View | Control Board”. It works straightaway!
HTH.
Cheers,
Robert

As Robert said, when the Bookmarks panel of the Control Board has the input focus, you can press and hold the Del key to delete all the bookmarks in the active document. When the last bookmark gets deleted, the input focus has to be switched to another GUI element because the Bookmarks panel becomes non-focusable (grayed-out). So the input focus gets switched to a GUI control that does not process keystrokes. This is to prevent the "Edit | Delete" command to be invoked in cases when you do not release the Del key quick enough.

But things will be improved in the next release of Atlantis. The input focus will be automatically switched to a document window when you release the Del key. In this way, all the hot keys will be immediately functional.

Thank you! It is not a critical bug. However fixing it make Atlantis even more usable.

Could you please consider adding a hotkey to switch focus to Control Board? (May be optional via hotkeys configuration.) I've shown above in this topic at least one situation, when such hotkey might be useful. Actually there are much more similar situations when using a word processor.

I am sorry, but it is unlikely that Atlantis Word Processor will ever have such a hot key. It is not a technical question. It is all about consistency. Such a hot key does not make sense since the Control Board cannot be used without mouse (besides a very small number of cases).
