issue opening filenames with Unicode chars from other c-page

Post by Leopoldus »

It seems, that Atlantis can not open any filename with Unicode chars from another codepage.

Windows XP, English. I try to open in Atlantis filenames with chars from another codepage (not this set by default in Regional Settings -> Advance -> Language for non-Unicode programs). I've tried any way I could imaging: by pressing [Enter] in order to open .RTF file in the default associates application (that is Atlantis), also drag-n-drop with mouse from a file manager, also via Atlantis' own main menu File -> Open..., also via OS context menu (the sub-menu Open With... No mean...

Is there any solution? I can not previously remove all accented and diacrritics chars from every filename I need to open in Atlantis - and than rename it again in order to restore its original name :(

The present version of Atlantis Word Processor does not support such filenames. I am sorry, but the only way to open such a document file in Atlantis is by renaming it with a file manager.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Is there any plans to add Unicode filenames support? For the last years more and more users use their native languages symbols for the files names. BTW this regards the most of European languages with their diacritics (German, French, Spain, all Scandinavians, all West Slavian, Central Europe etc etc.)

Well, I can restrict myself and not to use Unicode diacritic letters in my own documents. But I can not forbid it to every of my partners and correspondents, who send me their RTF and MS Word documents. In practice this mean, that in order to simply open any such document in Atlantis I need to undertake the long sequence of manipulations:
1. To rename the file in any file manager manually in order to replace all diacritic symbols with their analogs from ANSI.
2. To open the renames document in Atlantis to read it.
3. In the event when I need to edit a document as well (not only to view it) and than to send it back or to forward to another correspondent , I have to rename the file back (to restore the original name), replacing manually ANSI letters with the proper diacritic symbols.

The whole process means huge waste of time and besides human errors are more than probable during it :(

So could you please consider adding some solution to enable opening Unicode filenames in Atlantis? If it is too big work to add a native Unicode names support, may by it is possible to invent some work-around solution?

Many thanks in advance!
