Re: pcx-file
Now this is weird! After reading your post, I decided to try inserting a *.pcx file in Atlantis, and for me, it is not possible Every time I try to click on a *.pcx file or even select that format from the drop-down list, Atlantis 1.0 locks up completely, and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out of it. I saved the same file in bmp and jpg format, and they insert no problem,, but pcx is a no go. I was able to open the pcx file in another application (Irfanview), copy, and then paste it into Atlantis, but doing that resulted in a very noticeable degradation of the picture quality, as can be seen in this screenshot:
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/maxq/pcx.jpg

This is the first bug I have encountered in Atlantis' otherwise excellent graphics capabilities, and I will be very interested to hear suggestions on a fix for it.

About the "degradation" of the picture quality. First, thanks for the screenshot. It makes me easier to explain this. As you might know, your picture was too wide to fit the current page margins of your document. So Atlantis changed (reduced) the zooming factor for this picture (as you might know, each picture in Atlantis might have its own zooming factor). Actually your picture still has its original quality. Want to check this? Well, you could place it onto the clipboard using Atlantis. Then you could paste the clipboard contents to the PaintBrush window. If you had conducted such experiment, you would see that your picture had the same (high) quality as originally.
You should not worry that your picture did not look perfectly on the screen of monitor. Your picture was resized. A screen of monitor always has lower resolution in comparing to any printer. So your picture would have a perfect quality on paper.

But if you are not satisfied with the appearance of your big picture, just double-click it, and specify 100% zooming factor both on width and height.

About this

-----
Every time I try to click on a *.pcx file or even select that format from the drop-down list, Atlantis 1.0 locks up completely
-----

Well, I think that I can explain this too. The first thing I have to say: the PCX is the "slowest" graphic format of Atlantis. Any PCX is inserted to the Atlantis document a couple of times slower than pictures in other supported graphic formats through the Insert | Picture... command. Probably your PCX was quite big. You should wait a couple of seconds (if your computer is enough slow, and your PCX is enough big, this might take up to 10-15 seconds). Please be patient.

Also Prince inserted PCX through the Insert | Picture... command. His Atlantis has not locked up. As well as mine...

Please do not hurry to say "I have found a bug!"

;)

About that black rectangle.
Prince, could you please send your PCX to betatesting@rssol.com or comment@rssol.com?

You're right, I am sorry if it sounded like a criticism, it was more a puzzlement. It was stupid of me not to have considered the zooming factor in the "degradation".
On the other matter, when I first tried to load the pcx file it was 1MB, then I halved it to 500K, and it stil locked Atlantis right up. However, a jpeg of 550K, and a bmp of 1MB both loaded instantly, no problems at all. After reading your reply, I tried again, and sure enough, the pcx loads, just a lot more slowly. Any idea why a pcx image should load so much slower than images twice its size?

Again, I apologise if my earlier post sounded like a criticism, it wasn't meant to. I simply had a problem, and knew that here was the place to find the solution.
Ñïàñèáîadmin wrote:
Please do not hurry to say "I have found a bug!"

;)
Re: pcx-file
Thanks, Prince, for the PCX file.

Well, the support for PCX format was limited in Atlantis. Atlantis did not support some subversions of PCX.

The next build of Atlantis (1.0.0.34) will support all the widely used versions of PCX: 0, 2, and 5, as well as all the pixel formats of PCX: 1 bit per pixel, 4 bits, 8 bits, and 24 bits. These are the versions of PCX supported by PaintShop. As I know, the version 0 of the PCX is not supported even by MS PaintBrush (PCX was initially a native format of (ZSoft) PaintBrush).

Also this next build of Atlantis will insert PCXs very quickly.
Re: pcx-file
I believe pcx are only black and white. All of mine are anyway.
Re: pcx-file
No-no. There are different PCX versions and sub-formats.
Re: pcx-file
Is it possible that tif-files are a little old fashioned? I got one from a co-worker. But I couldn't open it with Atlantis OM or Photo Plus 5 - they didn't both support this format. Finally it worked with Imaging and CA-Textor 6.0 (relict from a past century).
Just call me the Prince
Re: pcx-file
TIFF is the last graphics format among the enough widely used formats that is not supported by Atlantis. It is probably that it will be supported by Atlantis in the future.
